The “ber” months are here, and that means the holiday season is almost here and it’s time for us to prepare for holiday shopping. All the shopping that needs to be done will stress you out if you don’t plan early. That’s why as early as now I’m planning my shopping list, and since I have three kids I’m using this opportunity to teach my kids on how to save money for the things on their wish list.

With all the new gadgets, toys, clothes out in the market, kids will surely have a lot on their holiday gift wish list. We have a rule that they can only have one gift each and the rest on their list they have to save up. So, I’m sharing you my ways on how to teach kids how to save money.

Holiday season is a good opportunity for parents to teach kids on how to save money and work for the things they wanted to have. Read my tips on how you can teach kids on how to save money.

1 Start with a savings goal

Ask and help them determine a realistic savings goal. Give the kids a savings journal, so they’ll map out a plan on how much they want to save every day or every week to be able to reach their goal.

2 Use a clear jar or piggy bank

A piggy bank is good, but a clear jar is better so that kids can see the progress of their savings. You can also open them a bank account where you will deposit the money every time their jar is full.

3 Give them a budget or allowance

This will teach kids responsibility on how they want to spend and save their allowance. You can also encourage them to give part of their savings to the church or a charity of their choice.

4 Teach them how to make money

This is a good chance to teach kids that they have to work for money. You can pay them for chores or show them opportunities where they can earn, just like using my favorite cashback app.

Who doesn’t want to get paid to buy things that you are already buying?

Shop just like you normally do and bring your family and friends for a fun shopping experience.

Earn rewards just like gift cards and even Paypal cash through Shopkick cashback app.

Shopkick makes shopping more fun for the entire family. With this FREE cashback app you can earn rewards and redeem them to get FREE gift cards or even cash via Paypal that you and your kids can use for their holiday gifts. The best part is it’s fun! It makes shopping more exciting for the whole family. It’s like scavenger hunting so your kids can help use this so you’ll earn more rewards.

Here’s how Shopkick works:

1 First is you have to download the Shopkick App

2 Open the app and browse the stores in the Earn Tab. You can see all the available stores under the “Kicks Nearby.”  I went to TJ Maxx. Once you tap on a store, there will be four bubbles at the top of the screen, which are the ways where you can earn kicks. That is when you Walk-In, Scan, Submit Receipts and use Linked Card.

3 Just by opening the app with Bluetooth on as you walk in the store, you immediately get 50 kicks (points). Easy right!

4 Here’s the fun part that my kids love. It’s like a scavenger hunt. Once you’re inside the store, you can browse for items in the app. Find those items in the store and scan it to get kicks. You don’t even have to purchase anything, all you have to do is search and scan. Some items may also provide a bonus video after the scan that you can watch to get more kicks. This is a fun way for your kids to earn rewards toward their holiday gifts.

Link your card and use it to purchase to earn extra kicks.

5 Now if you’re buying items, just link your card to the app and use it to pay to earn extra kicks. You also get better kicks for purchasing. I got one point per dollar up to 25 dollars. Just scan in your receipts to get kicks. Just take note though that points will not appear immediately for scanned receipts, you have to wait for 30 days.

You can also shop online and earn kicks by shopping from Shopkick’s partners.
