Growing up in Florida made me love everything about beach, sand, nature and adventures. For me, the sunshine state is one of the greatest places because it’s always filled with places to explore and adventures to do, making it the perfect vacation destination for adventure lovers and the best part there is no off-season because of its warm weather. I want my kids to be able to experience the fun outdoor adventures that I grew up to that is why even if we don’t live in Florida anymore, we make sure to go back home every year to connect with family and make new special memories.
Fall is actually one of the best time to visit Florida because the weather is just perfect for everyone to still enjoy the beach, nature and play outside. Gulf County Florida has always been on our list of place to visit every year. For my kids, vacation isn’t a vacation without water fun and Gulf County has beautiful beaches that they love. It has also been our tradition to go fishing, camping and hiking with our kids every Fall, and we love the fact that we can do it in Gulf County plus a lot of other activities. Every corner of this place is filled with great adventures for everyone in the family. Here are just some of the Gulf County Adventures that we plan to try this year.
Turtle Treasure Hunt
I’m pretty sure my kids will be thrilled to go on a turtle treasure hunt. Not only will they enjoy it but they will also learn how to love, save and conserve sea turtles. On this adventure, you will go with a guide on a Turtle patrol on the beach. You get a chance to view baby sea turtle nestings in the highest density-nesting beach in North Florida. You will look for signs of nesting and participate in the process of protecting loggerhead turtles. This part of the walk is really about marking and protecting the nests. You will help place posts and caution tape around the nest, so people know to stay away.
Camping by the beach
St. Joseph Peninsula State Park with miles of white sugar sand and natural beauty is the perfect place to camp to be able to enjoy the sunset, sunrise and sound of the sea. Throughout Gulf County campers will find a variety of full-facility campsites offering tent and RV sites with water and electricity.
Kayak Through the Dead Lakes
Every nature lover should add this adventure to your bucket list. I can’t wait to see the Dead Lakes, which got their name from the Cypress and Tupelo trees that stand in the water. It’s the perfect adventure to see and enjoy the peace and beauty of nature.
If you haven’t been to Gulf County, I definitely recommend that you add it to your bucket list. Start your new Fall tradition now and check out Gulf County Adventure Guide.

It wasn’t to long ago that I went to Dayton Beach with my college friends. I even had a date or two on their vast beaches. I think it is so neat that you can drive right up and have your car right there while you relax. I may have just told a fib it was a long time ago that I went to college. What I didn’t realize until I became a mom was all of the family friendly activities that Daytona Beach has to offer. The beach awaits but the place is also filled with activities that are perfect for my children. The amount of history in Daytona beach is surprising. They are the Festival Capital of Florida. They have an incredible Fall festivals that shouldn’t be missed. They have art museums and the historical homes of Flagler. I decided to plan a three day trip to check out what there is to do in the place that I have fond memories of.
The first thing I did was go to the Daytona Beach Website. I went there because it allows you to research places in Daytona Beach and then you can add them to your itinerary right on the website. I think that is a great way to plan a vacation. It has a great feature that locates each activity on a map.
I picked out everything that sounded interesting to my family and myself. I find this is the best way to plan a vacation. I was astounded by all of the cultural and educational opportunities that were located in Daytona Beach. Make sure to check out the list of amazing Free Things to Do in Daytona Beach.
We love to hike so I would start our trip off with the Spruce Creek Park it features hiking trails, playground, and a15-foot observation tower overlooking Rose Park. That would take up most of our morning.
Then I would head to lunch. We love seafood so I would find a local place along the coast. There are so many options for cuisine and lodging in Daytona Beach I was astounded.
Next we would head to Marine Science Center.
We would head to the Daytona Beach Boardwalk for dinner and then call it a night since we would put in at least 6 miles walking for the day.
I would take my family on the manatee boat tour in the Ponce inlet. I was so amazed by the manatees when I saw them for the first time. I am sure it will be a memory my children will not soon forget.
Lunch will be served at a local eatery on the Ponce Inlet.
We will then take a tour of the second largest light house located in Ponce inlet.
Depending on the weather we will take a nice walk on one of the gorgeous beaches near the Ponce Inlet.
Then we will attend the boardwalk again at night this time and try out the ferris wheel.
That will involve the Museum of Art and Sciences for me. Well, it does include a children’s science museum for them. I love bringing learning to life and a science museum is the perfect place to do so. I will enjoy looking over the unique collection of art in the Museum of Art.
When we are finish we will find a wonderful fall festival to attend. We may attend the Daytona Beach Blues Festival or find daily live music at Bruce Rossmeyer’s. I know I would love to check out Daytona Beach’s film festival.
Then we will attend an air show. I know my kids would love that Wings and Waves air show has over 40 different Air Force aircrafts. They give an astonishing aerial performance over the Atlantic Ocean. I can’t wait to see that.
Daytona is known for their beaches but what you didn’t know are all the jewels that are awaiting your exploration, they have Kid friendly options, Outdoor Fun and more. I encourage you to plan a trip that your family won’t soon forget.
I encourage you to rediscover Daytona Beach with your special someone or your special someones. What would you do if given the opportunity to explore such a diverse and beautiful place?
Disclosure: I was invited to come look at the property by Myrtle Beach. The post below is what I think would be helpful to know and why I would stay at the resort below.
I know I have been talking about why you should consider South Carolina as your vacation choice because of the family friendly environment. I would also like to suggest ten reasons to make the Crown Reef your resort of choice.
1. The first reason is simple. Location, Location, Location. They are directly on the beach and they have the largest beach front lazy river. I can tell you my kids live for a good lazy river. I am inclined to say I am also a fan.
2. They have completely redone all the rooms. This bathroom is top notch!
3. They offer various room assignments from efficiencies to suites.
4. All rooms face the ocean!
5. In room full kitchen. This is a time and money saver! Here is a list of what to bring in case you need one. My kitchen hotel kitchenette necessity list.
6. They have an arcade. Yes, and it doesn’t require coins. You just slide a card and off you go! Well, off they go and you can enjoy one of the many decks with an ice cream.
7) They have an ice cream parlor called swirl.
8. They are going to have a huge water slide. I mean huge. It will also be available year round! I can’t wait. I mean I really can’t wait. Do you know how much fun a water slide is?
9. There is a pool side bar. They want to make sure you are hydrated.
10. There are awesome restaurant onsite. The Loco Gecko Beach Shak features fresh food in a cool and causal environment.
This is a bonus… they have a conference center and ballroom. You could totally do a wedding there and I am more than willing to come to crash it. You did read the 10 reasons above. I truly believe if you scheduled a stay at the Crown Reef Resort you would not have a desire to leave. I think they offer everything a family would need to have an amazing vacation. I am willing to give them a try myself the next time I venture to Myrtle beach.

The Landmark Resort is located oceanfront, giving guests easy access to the cool waters of the Atlantic Ocean, but it also has many outdoor and seasonal indoor pool options. The water park is the perfect spot for warm weather fun for the whole family but the resort also offers a seasonally enclosed indoor pool area, including a 300 foot lazy river ride, a kiddie pool and separate kiddie lazy river, and five whirlpools. All guests can also appreciate the safe access the resort provides over busy Ocean Boulevard with its covered crosswalk, as well as the delicious food served at its restaurant. The Landmark Resort offers all the pool options, as well as free access to a nine-hole mini-golf course, when guests book one of its comfortable, affordable rooms.
The Landmark Resort
I was asked to visit Myrtle Beach with my family to provide you with the reality of traveling with three children. I currently reside in Virginia and the 7 hour drive was daunting at first. I got the car organized and loaded in the kids with the promise that I would enjoy Myrtle Beach. It is after all a family vacation spot. The drive was pleasant thanks to a great lunch and DVD players and a couple of travel games like the travel desk for kids.
We arrived at the hotel and were greeted Immediately by Lea at the front desk. Everyone during the entire stay from the cleaning staff to the pool staff said, “Hello”. You can tell that customer service is stressed at the Landmark Resort. I enjoyed being able to pull my car up and taking my luggage to our suite. I was a bit confused by the fact that our rom was on the outside of the hotel. I believe that had to do with three kids in a car for 7 hours more than my lack of intelligence. We opened our door to our room and were pleasantly surprised by the room. It was spacious and clean. It had one tub and two toilets which is very helpful with three children. The only flaw is the couch isn’t a pull out. I luckily have short children so one slept on the couch without issue. I realized I failed to take pictures of the room. I think that was a result of the kids squealing with delight and throwing all their stuff down, peeling off their clothes, and dragging me to the indoor pool under the hotel. You can’t take pictures of a messy room. You can see how messy the kids made the room in the pictures below but that is part of vacation living in the moment. There was ample storage and we each unpacked our clothes into the provided drawers.
I really enjoyed having the kitchen. It was nice to be able to cook my meals and save money. There was a full size table which as you can tell had a big screen TV above.
I thought I would share my shopping list with you so if you’re lucky enough to stay here you would pick these items up at the store
Plastic silverware (4 pieces of silverware are provided)
We made eggs, pancakes, bacon for breakfast. Then for lunch we had sandwiches and chips with fruit. We went out for dinner but next time I am bringing my crockpot because then we could spend more time enjoying the beach.
I also appreciated that Food Lion is in walking distance of the hotel if you do not have a car. They do have a garage and a covered walkway across the road so that makes staying at this hotel a breeze. I found ample parking and was able to navigate easily around the town. The real key to why I would stay at the Landmark again is the underground pool and spa.
We really enjoyed our stay since we had quick access to the beach and the indoor pool with water features it was a huge hit. I was honestly not sure my children would ever want to leave. They loved the pools, lazy river, water features, and hot tubs.
We found that you could easily stay at the hotel without leaving for anything and still feel satisfied that you had a great vacation. I mean this is the view from my room. Do you blame me for not wanting to leave?
I also appreciated the onsite restaurant that offered pleasant service and great food. We had the breakfast buffet and it was affordable and my kids and myself were stuffed. It featured eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, fruit, and juice among other family favorites.
I would also let you know the Internet is okay they have plenty of networks available but the signal wasn’t always that best. I found I really didn’t care. I was here to play with my children and enjoy life. I could check and respond to my emails at night. I feel relaxed and happy and that is what life is about isn’t it? I would suggest giving the Landmark hotel I visit. I found it to be a great hotel for the beach. It had great access to parking and the beach and it was located near everything you would need.
I miss the view already and the fun we had. The great thing is I know I will return to Myrtle Beach again because we had so much fun and we have the shells to prove it!

When I was little I remember our family taking “long” trips to my grandparents’ house —2 hours away. Now, I think nothing of our 50 mile one way weekly trip “into town” to grocery shop! My number one tip when traveling with kids is to CHECK YOUR ATTITUDE! As parents our attitude toward traveling will make a tremendous difference in the reaction of our children. When we are going on an adventure then everyone gets excited, if we are just doing our daily routine (homeschooling, nap, snacks, etc.) in the car that is a bit different but not a problem. However, if we grumble and fuss, then the “kick the dog” syndrome sets in and no one is happy!Continue reading
