My Husband and I have nothing in common…and that’s ok!

My Husband and I have nothing in common…and that’s ok!

I find that inspiration from blogging can come from anywhere, something I saw on TV, funny things my little girl does, or conversations with my husband like the one I had this morning. It was a simple conversation about the way we liked a certain food cooked. Every morning (err…afternoon for most people, my husband works nights) we watch The Chew together before my husband has to leave for work, we use this time to catch up and watch people that are way better at cooking then me make awesome food. As we were playfully arguing about the “correct” way to fry a chicken I came to a sudden realization…..Continue reading

Thought for the Week from Karla’s Korner: Focus

Thought for the Week

Thought for the Week

I am proud to introduce a new column to Madame Deals! I think we all need a touch point a place we can go to be inspired. Karla is my children’s teacher, a good friend, and a person with a heart of gold. I hope that her words will inspire you to do more. We are only as good as the people we surround ourselves with. It is important to listen with your heart and proceed with your eyes open. Enjoy!

Spring is in the air and my yard is bustling with a lot of activity from the critters that call my yard home. While sweeping off the deck the other day I noticed movement in the tree a few feet away and discovered that a dove has taken up residence in a nest there. She is beautiful. She is still, calm and much focused on staying put while the squirrels and other birds scamper all around her. Her eyes are outlined with the most beautiful shade of blue while her soft gray feathers seem to fade from one shade to another. With a few leftover leaves above that have hung on throughout the winter she is tucked into her nest waiting for the big day. I find myself going out to check on her periodically and am amazed at her focus and patience. While the unpredictable Virginia weather has brought snow, sleet, rain, wind and sunshine in the past week the momma dove has not moved. I find myself wondering how she can just sit there and wait. What is it that makes her so focused and so determined to stay put? The answer is simple: she’s a mom.Continue reading

Karla’s Korner: The Diary of our Lives

Once in a while I sit down with an idea in my head and writing my weekly post is quick and easy. However, most of the time I sit down in my makeshift office (my grandmother’s dining table) and stare out the window until inspiration hits me. Quite often I listen to music, country of course, and wait; sometimes it takes a while. Certain that I would be staring out the window for quite a while today; I decided to get a few chores out of the way before I planted myself in solitude. I grabbed my apron and headed to the kitchen to make a batch of egg noodle dough. The quiet of my house was deafening (oh how I miss my little kids under foot) so I flipped on the radio hoping to break the silence. And then it hit me with great force; very seldom does my inspiration tip toe in quietly.Continue reading

Karla’s Korner: I Want The Fairy Tale

I am proud to introduce a new column to Madame Deals! I think we all need a touch point a place we can go to be inspired. Karla is my children’s teacher, a good friend, and a person with a heart of gold. I hope that her words will inspire you to do more. We are only as good as the people we surround ourselves with. I Want The Fairy Tale…

In the movie Pretty Woman, Edward asks Vivian what it is that she wants. He has offered her money and an apartment and occasional visits when he is in town. While some would think that is a pretty sweet deal, she turns him down with a response “I want the fairy tale”. Well don’t we all?

If one would take a look at my life I seriously doubt it would be considered a fairy tale. However, I like to think it is; you see I believe that we have the power to create our own fairy tale. We each have the power to define what our own fairy tale should be. When I first met my husband nearly 25 years ago I was 19 years old and was certain up to that point that I was destined to be alone. I had dated, had my heart broken and like most young girls that age was searching for my Prince Charming who would sweep me off my feet, shower me with sparkly things, put a big shiny ring on my finger and ride off into the sunset to a life of babies, puppy dogs, beautiful house and bliss. Guess what…my fairy tale didn’t turn out that way and I am so thankful that it didn’t.Continue reading
