Chutzpah: I Quit my job

Chutzpah. This is a word that is used often by myself because sometimes I just can’t believe what people do. I mean really! I thought it would be fun to share our Chutzpah moments. The only rules are no names of stores, people, or events. You may also not use inappropriate language. Leave a comment listing your favorite Chutzpah moment! I mean laughter is the best medicine.

chutzpah Or khutspe. Nerve, extreme arrogance, brazen presumption. In English, chutzpah often connotes courage or confidence, but among Yiddish speakers, it is not a compliment.

I sat down in December last year and made a business plan. I worked each month to accomplish my goals. I decided that in a year I would be able to quit my job and work on my business. I am lucky in that fact that we have chosen to live on my husband’s salary and my earnings were for the extras. I wrote down what I needed to earn monthly so our children would have what they needed. I made sure I was able to reach those goals for three months straight. Then I put in my notice. I decided I was missing out on my children and I wanted to spend time with them. I always say if you put forth the effort and have a plan you never know what you can accomplish you just have to have the Chutzpah to believe in yourself!

Have you ever seen the movie Fried Green Tomatoes ? I relive the car scene in my mind often. In fact I have thought about doing it. I hate when you are in a crowded parking lot and someone has decided to park in two spots. I was recently in a garage and someone did just this. It actually made me laugh since this car was not in the best condition. It was not a classic. In fact I would be surprised if this car was actually able to move. I also wonder how difficult is it to see the yellow lines and park between them correctly.

What makes you cringe when you drive?

What does RSVP mean? It means to let a person know if you plan to attend. It also means if you say you are going to show up do so. If you can not attend after saying you can then kindly let the person know. I am surprised since there are so many ways to contact people why so many people still do not respond. I think because people do not speak French

From the French RSVP, répondez s’il vous plaît, meaning “reply please” or “please respond”. French lesson concluded.

Have you ever had an unexpected guest?

Chutzpah: Bad dates or bad communication

I thought I would share a story from my college days. I was talking to one of my friends and we were chatting about the country. I like country music and I think there is a certain sex appeal to cowboys. I did go on a date once with a cowboy. I thought we were going on a nice date. I put on a dress and “girl” shoes. I applied make up and even found a matching purse for my shoes. I was pretty excited. I asked where we were going. He said Outback. I thought cool steak. This is a big deal to a college student. The problem? He meant out back to shoot cans with a gun. Well that date went no where……

Do you have any funny dates to share?

The cart thief. I went to the store today. I spotted my cart. I cleaned it off. I was just about ready to place the baby in the cart and it was gone. I looked back at where it had been. I wondered if the person who grabbed it noticed how much effort it took to clean it down. I was also curious to know if  they noticed the 21 lbs of moving chunky monkey in my arm as I attempted to throw away the wipes. I couldn’t let the opportunity pass so when I saw my handiwork in the aisle I told the baby I sure do wipe a cart really nicely maybe I deserve a tip. I couldn’t resist it has been one of those days.

I often wonder about the social norms found in the bar scene. I haven’t frequented bars in over ten years so the lively engagements are long ago memories. I had the opportunity to embrace and relive the wonders of “people watching “at a bar while on my girl’s weekend. I have training in “people watching” during my years of teaching and my education in Special Education. I often evaluate behaviors and determine if the appropriate social cognition was implemented. I actually saw more than one example of misread socially acceptable behavior while in the “bar”.
