Celebrating the Easter Season with Friends

Not Your Normal Easter Season Recipes

Easter Season

I love spending time with friends and with kids it get hard to enjoy nights out very often. We try to get together on a monthly basis for adult conversation, fun, and of course food. The kids love it because we are always trying out new yummy dessert recipes and they get to help. This month was no different and with Easter coming I wanted to try out some new Easter Recipes. I get sick of the traditional pies and desserts so I ventured outside of my normal recipes. I was also looking for recipes that the kids could do. I think it is important for both boys and girls to experience the fun of cooking.

I decided to create my version of Resurrection Rolls using Great Value Crescent Rolls. While picking up my Great Value Crescent Rolls, I decided that I was going to sneak a little Irish magic in there. I decided to use the Great Value Cinnamon Rolls and create a Shamrock Cinnamon Roll.

My favorite recipe that I made was the recipe for Resurrection Rolls. My family celebrates the commercial as well as the religious Easter Season but I had never made Resurrection Rolls. I wanted to change things up so I substituted Peeps into my recipe.

Easter Season Resurrection Rolls Ingredients

2 packages Great Value Crescent Rolls

1 package of Peeps

Easter Season Resurrection Rolls Directions

Preheat oven to 400*

Unroll crescent rolls and separate into triangles.

Using a rolling pin – roll out the triangles slightly.

Place 1 peep in the center of the triangle and fold up.

Make sure to pinch the edges closed.

Place seam sides down on baking sheet.

Bake in oven for 14 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from oven and open them up to find the surprise!

Our party could not have been better but there was great discussion over the merits of coloring Easter Eggs if they are never eaten. Watch for my follow-up article to see what we decided to do.

In the spirit of the Easter Season, I also made the following:

Jelly Been Fudge

Peep Smores

Dunkaroo Dip with Animal Crackers

Peanut Butter Chocolate Banana Bread

Food and Fun with Kids: Chocolate Cookie Peanut Butter Pie Recipe

Food and Fun with Friends

Last week, I wrote on how to host a party without breaking the bank. Last night was my chance to put that in action. My family and I had my 2 best friends and their families over for a night of food and fun. Since I love to bake it was an easy decision to center the food around desserts. I made 6 different recipes and decided we would do a taste testing and pick out our favorite at the end of the night.

The afternoon was spent baking and my husband and daughter even joined me in the kitchen. Some people bake every day in December but I like to get it done in one day and feel like I have accomplished a minor victory.  The one thing that made the whole baking process faster than usual was using refrigerated Great Value products. I used Great Value pie crust, chocolate chip cookie dough, crescent rolls, biscuits, and sugar cookie dough.

Even before everyone arrived laughter was already flowing in my house as my husband used my Kitchen Aid mixer for the first time. Can we say powdered sugar shower? The baking laughter turned to hysterical laughter when my Father in Law brought me home steaks and  fresh lobsters to cook for dinner. When I say fresh I mean alive and moving which left me totally freaking  out. I did learn an oval crockpot will hold 2 live lobsters until you are ready to cook them. That is a story for another day.

We were already in a festive mood when everyone arrived around 7 o’clock. We spent the next 5 hours talking, eating, and laughing. I don’t think we will forget the Coke volcano shooting up in the kitchen or Henry (our elf on a shelf) creeping people out as he hangs from the ceiling fan. We all enjoyed spending time together and have already made plans for spending New Years Eve together. Knowing that we can get together without anyone spending an excessive amount of money because we followed of the ideas in Party Planning on a Budget.

The dessert menu consisted of Chocolate Cookie Peanut Butter Pie, Quick Pecan Rolls, Mixed Berry Pizza, Apple Turnovers, Monkey Bread, and Cinnamon Roll Cups.

It was a hard decision but the favorite recipe of the night was the Chocolate Cookie Peanut Butter Pie. I have included the recipe below.

Food and Fun with Friends

Chocolate Cookie Peanut Butter Pie

 Ingredients

1 roll GREAT VALUE Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

3 cups powdered sugar

1 cup peanut butter

2 Tbsp butter

1/4 – 1/2 cup water

1 can chocolate frosting

Heat oven to 350* . In bottom of ungreased round cake pan (you can also use a 9″ springform pan) break up GREAT VALUE chocolate chip cookie dough . Press cookie dough evenly on the bottom of the pan. (You may want to put a little flour on your hands so it doesn’t stick.)

Bake 14-18 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and cool for 15 minutes.

While the cookie is baking and cooling, combine peanut butter, butter, powdered sugar, 1/4 cup water in bowl until well blended. If mixture is not getting smooth enough add the remaining water slowly until it is the texture you want.

Drop mixture unto cookie crust and spread evenly to cover the crust.

Heat chocolate frosting in the microwave to melt. (10-15 seconds) Remove and pour on top of peanut butter mixture.

Refrigerate 1 hour or until set. Slice to serve.

Hi I’m Gwendolyn and I have been a stay at home mom since 2009. I have been with my husband, James, for 10 years and we are proud parents of Jayme (8) and Nicholas (14). We are also parents to 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 hamsters, and a snake. My father-in-law lives with us so it is always non-stop at our house. I had the honor of becoming a step-parent when I got married and have a great relationship with my step-son. I always used coupons and shopped for bargains but was forced to step up my game when my husband was disabled in 2005. I get an incredible rush from saving money and finding great deals. My life is a constant journey and I look forward to sharing it with you all.

Taco Ring Recipe

I love cooking for my family but I also like food that is quick and easy to prepare. A favorite of my family (which I don’t make often enough) is Taco Ring. Taco Ring is simple to make and even my children can help make it. It is a great go to recipe when I want something tasty and easy that doesn’t come from a box.

Taco Ring

  • 2 packages of refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 2 lbs ground beef or ground turkey
  • 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese (or other flavor you prefer)
  • Taco seasoning mixContinue reading
