What can make pulled pork even better? How about grilled peaches? I have taken my quick to prepare pulled pork recipe and stepped it up a notch by making it a peaches recipe!

I have a couple of recipes for crockpot pulled pork and this easy recipe for crockpot pulled pork. I find that dinner is often a chore so we need to come up with ways to make it fast and fantastic.  I recently went peach picking and I had some peaches to spare so that inspired this awesome recipe.

Mexican Recipes Kids Can Make: Homemade Taco Seasoning

mexican recipes kids can make

My family loves Taco Night! It’s quick, easy, and one of the few meals that all four of us can agree on. I try to always keep our pantry and fridge stocked with taco supplies for whenever I need a throw-together meal.

One evening, I was all set to make tacos and realized that I didn’t have any taco seasoning. It occurred to me that I probably already had everything I needed to make homemade taco seasoning in my spice rack. So I hopped online and found out what spices are usually included in pre-packaged taco seasoning mix. I had them all – I combined them and it turned out great! Here’s the mix that my family likes. You can adjust it to suit your own tastes. My kids like their foods a bit spicy – if yours have more sensitive palates, you may want to cut back on the chili powder and red pepper.

Homemade Taco Seasoning

Homemade Taco Seasoning

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients in a small bowl.

Your homemade taco seasoning will be ready to go in just minutes! Once the meat for your tacos is browned or fully cooked, add the seasoning directly to the meat. I like to start with 2 teaspoons and then add more to taste. Slowly add water to the pan and bring the meat to a simmer until it’s saucy and seasoned just the way you like it!

My kids love to help by measuring and stirring the spices. It’s a great sensory activity, too – you can let your kids smell, taste, and feel the different textures of each spice. I like to double this recipe so that I always have some on hand – just be sure to store it in an airtight container.

Crock Pot Recipes for Kids: Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese

Crock Pot Recipes for Kids

Crock Pot Recipes for Kids

This recipe is easy to make with items you have on hand and has fewer chemicals than the boxes! You can adjust the ingredients to your family’s preference and dietary needs as noted in the variations. Adult help may be needed to cook and drain the noodles as well as pour the ingredients from the bowl into the crock pot.

Crock Pot Recipes for Kids: Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese

Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese

Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese

Ingredients

  • 1 (8-ounce) package elbow macaroni (cooked and drained)
  • 1(12-ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup medium cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 2 eggs,beaten
  • additional grated cheese for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pam spray or grease the crock pot's inside.
  2. Mix all of the above ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. Pour into crock pot. Cook on high for 2 hours OR on low for 3 1/2 hours. DON'T STIR. Allow to cool 10 -15 minutes before serving. This not only protects your tongue and the roof of your mouth but also allows the macaroni and cheese to set so it is not runny.
  4. You may notice that the cheese is well done on this batch in the picture- it cooked an extra 1 hour to make it that dark. We actually like the crispy edges!:)
  5. Tips:
  6. Evaporated milk substitution: If you don't have canned evaporated milk you can use 1 cup powdered milk mixed in 1 and 2 Tbs water. The results from these measurements equal the 12 ounce can.
  7. When we make a recipe with butter we use the wrapper of the butter to grease the pan rather than using the spray.
  8. Variations:
  9. The pasta can be any small noodle you choose: eggless, white, wheat, veggie, rotini, elbow. The 3 cups of cheese can be a combination of whatever flavors you prefer. Try 1 cup of pepper jack for a bit of spice and a more "adult version" of a child's favorite. The recipe can also be made low fat by using fat free cheeses, eggbeaters and I can't believe its not butter. We love parmesan cheese on top!

Recipes for Kids to Cook

My daughter is 7 and loves to cook. Hope everyone enjoys making this with their kids.

There are a lot of ways you can change the recipe around to fit your family’s taste buds. Normally I would have used tuna but my daughter doesn’t care for tuna so we used chicken instead.

Recipes for Kids to Cook: Chicken and Broccoli Roll-ups

Chicken and Broccoli Roll-ups

Chicken and Broccoli Roll-ups

Ingredients

  • 1 can of chicken
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 can of cream of chicken soup
  • Package of frozen broccoli – I use the steam bags of broccoli
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 cup of shredded cheese
  • Durkee onions
  • About 6 large tortillas

Instructions

  1. Grease a casserole dish and set aside.
  2. Take your milk, cheese, cream of chicken soup and pepper and mix together. Set about a quarter of it to the side (you’ll pour it on top at the end).
  3. In the larger amount of the mixture in your large bowl add your chicken and your broccoli (if you steam or cook the broccoli first your cooking time is less, I use the steam bags for 2 reasons kids can cook them easily and they are quick with no mess) and mix it all up .
  4. Place your tortilla on a flat surface and put some of your mixture in the middle and roll and place in the dish. Keep doing this until all of your filling is gone. Pour the mixture you set aside on top and then sprinkle some durkee onions on top.
  5. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes. Longer if the broccoli wasn’t pre cooked.
  6. ENJOY!

Kids Meal Recipes: Pour in a Pan Pizza

Kids Meal Recipes

Kids Meal Recipes

Have a child who wants to help but does NOT want his hands to get messy? I do and this recipe is the best solution for this problem! This is also a quick and easy kids meal recipes if you don’t have ready made crust or time for a homemade one to rise.

Kids Meal Recipes: Cooking for Kids Pour in a Pan Pizza

Pour In a Pan Pizza

Pour In a Pan Pizza

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2/3 cup milk (water or milk substitutes can be used)
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Chopped Ingredients
  • 1 lb cooked sausage
  • 1 (3 1/2) oz pkg pepperoni
  • 2 tablespoons onion
  • 2 tablespoons green pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, salt, garlic powder and pepper. Stir in milk and eggs. This will be your "crust." It now needs to be poured into a greased 13x9x2 pan.
  2. Sprinkle the chopped ingredients over the "crust."
  3. Bake at 425 for 15 minutes. Remove the pizza from oven.
  4. Be careful not to touch the pan during this next step because it will be hot!!
  5. Spread 1 cup pizza sauce and 2 cups mozzarella cheese on top then bake for minutes more.
  6. **Adult supervision is needed for operating the oven and removing the pizza.
If a child forgets the order of layering and dumps it all in a pan the end product will not look as good but it tastes just fine!
I have one child that is very aware of textures and cannot stand "chopped" vegetables. My quick and easy solution to having children help cook but not chop AND helping avoid texture problems is to have vegetable ice cubes in a labeled freezer bag. I puree fresh vegetables then freeze in a ice cube tray so you can grab "2 tablespoons" or one cube quickly. This works wonderfully for peppers, onions, celery and more!
For a thinner crust use a larger pan, we have even used a cookie sheet.

Kid Crock Pot Recipes: Taco Soup

Kid Crock Pot Recipes

I’m always looking for fast, easy kid crock pot recipes – and this Taco Soup is exactly that! You’ll be able to throw it together in just minutes, probably with ingredients you already have laying around the house. Let it cook all day and it’ll be ready for your family to enjoy by dinner time.

Crock Pot Taco Soup

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 (16 ounce) can chili beans, with liquid
  • 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, with liquid
  • 1 (15 ounce) can whole kernel corn, with liquid (I prefer the kind with no salt added)
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
  • 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chile peppers
  • 1 (1.25 ounce) package taco seasoning mix

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain and set aside.
  2. Place the ground beef, onion, chili beans, kidney beans, corn, tomato sauce, water, diced tomatoes, green chile peppers, and taco seasoning mix in your crock pot.
  3. Mix to blend and cook on low setting for about 8 hours.

And that’s it! Doesn’t get much simpler than that. It’s not super spicy, but if your kids have sensitive taste buds, you can reduce or omit the green chile peppers. Garnish it with tortilla chips, sour cream, or cheddar cheese. And it makes great leftovers, too!
