Soccer Builds Strong Women

You know me as the Real Advice Gal in my spare time I am the soccer mom. I spend my nights and weekends on the sideline. If you know me at all you know I love dresses so I made myself one specially for soccer, my students created the Wonder Woman graphic because it takes superhero power to manage it all. Do you know why I am so dedicated to soccer?

I have three children and they all love soccer. This week one of the parents sent out an email saying my daughter who is in first grade has natural talent. The truth is she loves soccer. She sets a goal before each game to get so many goals and so many assists. You knows what an assist is because she studies the game when her older brother plays on the travel team. This past weekend she got 5 goals and 2 assists and she in her own words “showed those boys girl power”. I am a huge fan of empowering girl through sports. We stress a healthy lifestyle, fitness, pride, work ethic, and good old fashion fun. We also encourage our children to be themselves.

Last weekend we celebrated Mother’s day and one of the stories that touched my heart was when the U.S. Soccer reunited the U.S. Women’s National Team members with their moms over Mother’s Day Weekend.

On Saturday night, as the team prepared for a send-off game vs. Ireland (in San Jose, CA) in advance of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the team received an awesome surprise when Fox Sports flew out every player’s mom. It was so touching to see these women be reunited with their moms for Mother’s day. Then, on Sunday during the U.S.A. vs. Ireland game (at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, Ca) a unique breaking of tradition took place. Rather than taking the field with youth soccer members to enter the stadium, the players walked out with their moms in a heartwarming tribute to Mother’s Day and moms across America.

I am so inspired by the One Nation, One Team, 23 Stories of our Women’s National Soccer team. I want to be the kind of mom that these women have. I want to be the mom that cheers on her little girl as she turns it up on the field and in life. I want to inspire my daughter to be more than she thinks she can be. I want to be her rock. This Mother’s day for the first time ever see what happened to the US Women’s soccer team. It will make you sad and it will make you happy. It will also remind you that we all need a little GIRL POWER in our lives. Support the US Women’s soccer team because supporting their dreams means you are supporting the dreams of girls like mine.
