Mother’s Day is fast approaching. In fact, my husband and daughter just left for a quick trip to the store without me. That usually means they are heading out in search of something FOR me. If you are like me, this coming Sunday is a day to celebrate motherhood. The day doesn’t have to involve expensive gifts or fancy meals. In fact, the most memorable Mother’s Day presents I ever received were the ones which were homemade and filled with sentiments from my husband and children.
I am perfectly content to quietly celebrate Mother’s Day in the comfort of our home (sans the housework, of course). Here’s a few of my favorite Mother’s Day gift ideas for under $10:
A special photo: whether it’s framed, embossed on a coffee mug, or slipped into a pretty handmade card, it is sure to bring a smile to Mom’s face.
A flowering plant: one that will bloom over the next few weeks and possibly be hardy enough to survive even my black thumb
A picnic: a basket of sandwiches, a few chips and maybe even some chocolate chip cookies enjoyed with my family at a local park
Handprints: on cards, in frames and in plaster. I still have and cherish the handprint crafts which came home from preschool when my children were small
Handmade pottery: whether it be a vase, a plate, or a bowl. The paper clips on my desk are still kept in a small “thumb” bowl our son made for me twenty some years ago.
“Pretties and smellies”: fill a basket with sample sizes of Mom’s favorite bath products and a “pretty” or two. My favorites are hair clips and ties.
