How to decorate vases with burlap and twine

I have been working hard on all the decorations to go with a country girl sunflowers and burlap themed bridal shower for my sister. Today I finished making vases. I decorated the vases with burlap, twine, and burlap flowers.

I chose to use smooth glass bottles because I thought it would be easier to glue the twine and burlap to a smooth surface. You could use mason jars it might just be a bit trickier to attach the materials to the outside. I made 4 vases total and made two similar pairs. I purchased the burlap and twine form BurlapFabric.com. All of the other items can be found at a craft store.

Directions:

1. Remove any stickers or labels from the vase.

2. Put a bit of glue on the side of the bottle. Start attaching the twine in one long continuous piece around the vase, pulling it tight around the vase. Allow the glue to dry after the first few wraps to make it easier to continue wrapping the twine around the bottle.  One roll of twine was enough to cover two of my vases with a bit left over.

 3. When the first several rows dry, add a longer line of glue and continue wrapping the wine all the way down as far as you want it to go on the vase.

4. Finish on the same side of the bottle where you started and allow it to dry completely. You can add additional decorations, I decided to add one of the burlap flowers that I made for the burlap wreath.

5. For the second vase style, you will use a wider burlap ribbon.

6. Measure and cut a piece of burlap ribbon so that it goes around the vases and overlaps about 1/2 inch.

7. After cutting it you will secure it to the vase using the same glue as before.

Before adding sunflowers and water to the vases I decided to add some river rocks to make sure the vase was heavy enough that the vase would not tip over with the weight of the sunflowers.

Add sunflowers and you are done. How pretty are these vases? I love them and think they will look great on the tables at the bridal shower. They were fun and easy to make. Have you ever tried to decorate vases with burlap and twine?
