Gardening Tips – Bug Repelling Plants

Bug Repelling Plants

bug repelling plants

One thing that most people can agree upon in regards to the “Great Outdoors” is that bugs take a bite out of the amount of enjoyment one can get from spending time in the elements. Personally I live in Florida and I am trying to spend a lot more time outdoors with my kids enjoying the weather and creating a garden before the weather turns to unbearably hot, with a side of hurricane, and a splash of mosquito infestation.Continue reading

Graduation Personalized Gifts: Money Graduation Wreath

Graduation Personalized Gifts

Money Graduation Wreath

Graduation Personalized Gifts: Money Graduation Wreath

It is that time again. Graduation. The start of a new life. Well the start of adulthood, the time when your children become adults and they are done with required school. I can’t imagine how exciting it is to have a graduate and how difficult it is to let go of your baby. I do know that graduating high school or college is a huge accomplishment and it deserves a gift.

In our home cash and gift cards have always been welcome. I mean who wouldn’t want cash? Who doesn’t need a gift card. That is why I loved this Graduation Personalized Gifts Idea. I set a budget of $100. I am sure there will be people who will give less and some who will give more you can easily do this Graduation Wreath project for $50 or less. If you do not roll the bills and instead fold them over the wreath it will be cheaper.

Here’s how to do this Graduation Personalized Gifts: Money Graduation Wreath

This project will require a wire wreath I got my at walmart for under $3.00. It is the same one but smaller that I used to make my cool diaper wreath.

Then get dollar bills and gift cards from places near the college. I usually put $5- $10 on each card depending on what it was. I did $10 for the pizza and the food and $5 on the Dunkin Doughnuts and the Dollar Tree.

You will take a dollar bill and roll it with the one on the top. You will need to roll all the bills the same way or the wreath will look funny.

Then you rubber band the money on the wreath.

I found this sign for $1.00 to put on it or you can use the amount of the money to add to the bottom. Get it 20 1 5 for 2015.

I then used a glue gun to put on the gift cards. You can also use double stick tape or tie them on with ribbons. I am sure whomever receives this will be very happy.

Are you looking for a gift for the high school graduate in your life? I know I always need ideas. I am a youth group leader at my church which means I am fortunate to be able to celebrate the success and hard work of many students as they complete their high school careers and move onto college. This year I decided to make a freshman year survival kit gift for one of my students.

Because I am lucky enough to have so many great young people in my life I also have to stick to a tight budget when giving them gifts. The perfect place to find all of the items I wanted to include in the kit and stick within my budget is the dollar store. It is amazing all the great things you can find for gift giving for all sorts of occasion but especially for the high school graduates on your list this year. So the kit starts with a large container to hold all of the items. I chose a laundry basket but you could also do a plastic storage tote or garbage can.  Continuing with the laundry idea i picked up some small bottles of Tide laundry detergent. These cute little bottles are perfect because they take up very little space. I also grabbed a box of dryer sheets.

Next I hit the food aisle. I know college students these days  have all sorts of meal plans and dining options but there will still be times when they need to make something quick in their dorm room or common area. I was so happy to find a great variety of microwaveable meals. Freshman Year Survival Kit Dinner

I found a small jar of jelly and some single serve peanut butter. Add bread and lunch is ready!

Don’t forget about breakfast. Again I went with the microwave being the preferred cooking method of college students everywhere and picked up some single serve oatmeal cups.

I also got some fun flavors of Hawaiian Punch …. and two mugs. I put the drink packets in one mug.

My budget for this gift was $50 so I took the extra cash left over after buying all the items into the other mug. All college students can use some cash!

Lastly, I grabbed a few school supplies; pens, pencils, and highlighters. I also got a microwaveable bowl for heating leftovers or cooking ramen noodles.

So then I put it all together.

Directions to Assemble the Freshman Year Survival Kit Graduation Gift Idea:

1. Cut an extra long piece of cellophane (you can always trim it later). Pput it in the basket so it is covering the bottom and the sides.

2. Arrange microwaveable meals inside the basket around the edges putting a round one in the center.

3. Put the school supplies inside the microwaveable bowl, then put the lid on.

4. Put the bowl in the center and tuck all the rest of the items along the sides. I also added some Jolly Ranchers for a sweet treat!

5. I added a beach ball to the top that says Congrats Grad! You could add a balloon instead or maybe a sweatshirt with the logo of their new college on it.

6. Finally I pulled the cellophane up around the beach ball and secured it with tape. Then I tied a ribbon around the top. I think the final project turned out really nice.

How to Make a Baby Diaper Wreath

Learn how to make a baby diaper wreath

I was recently invited to a baby shower and I was thinking of what baby shower gift to bring, I want to give them something memorable and of course pratical and looks nice. Since I’m crafty, I decided to make a personalized baby shower gift using diapers because we all know they will need tons of diapers. The result turned out to be super cute so I wanted to share with you my super easy tutorial on how to make a baby diaper wreath. The wreath that I made is for a baby shower gift for a boy, but the great thing is you can just alter the design if you want to make it for a girl or make it a neutral gender baby shower gift. This can also be used as baby shower decoration.Continue reading
