The only thing my son really wanted for Christmas this past year was an Amazon Echo. I was hesitant at first but went ahead and got one for him when they were on sale. I am really glad I did! We love Alexa! I want to share with you some of our favorite things that the Amazon Echo does for us.

Lately, I have been finding myself needing a weekend to relax after my weekend. Life is hectic and busy all week long and instead of having a break on the weekends, it seems life is even busier. Surviving Saturday is the only reason I need to celebrate and this past weekend I celebrated with a frozen ice cream mudslide pie cocktail.
Since my Saturday was so crazy, I decided to get a little crazy with my cocktail. Why not? Right? So I made my mudslide with a slice of Edwards Hershey Crème Pie. Edwards pies are perfect for ANY occasion whether you are celebrating a birthday, work event, graduation or surviving Saturday. Who says you can’t have your pie and drink it too!
Add all of the ingredients to a blender. Blend until smooth. Drizzle chocolate syrup on the inside of the serving glass. Pour mudslide mix into the glass. Top with whipped cream and chocolate jimmies.
Your weekend probably includes at least one trip to Walmart. I know mine usually does. So while you are there head to the frozen dessert section in the freezer aisle and pick out your favorite pie flavor. Whether it’s celebrating the week’s wins, reconnecting with friends, or making it through another day, Edwards® invites you to take a break and reward yourself during those everyday moments.
I hope you will remember to celebrate you successes in life no matter how big or small. Try a slice of pie or make yourself a frozen ice cream mudslide pie cocktail.
I love love love the way these sweet flowers look. They are also easy to make and a great way to add a extra special touch to any project. You can use them to decorate vases, wreaths, or even make a bouquet of burlap flowers. I hope you will enjoy learning how to make burlap flowers as much as I enjoyed doing it. Now that I know how to do this I want to glue these cute flowers on everything.

If your dog or dogs are anything like mine they have spent the past few months of winter eating and sleeping. They are only outside long enough to relieve themselves and they are back seeking the warmth of the house. This has left them with some “Extra” Winter weight that they need to lose in order to stay healthy. Yes, even our pets need to stay in shape in order to help them live a long happy life. While many dogs would prefer to sleep they do need to get up and get moving. With these Tips on How to Exercise Your Dog you will help your furry companion lose his Winter weight and be excited to get up and get moving. The best part is you will get in some exercise also.
Tip #1 — Make your dog’s exercise fun. People don’t like to do boring workouts so why would your dog. Purchase a new ball and set aside time each day to toss the ball. They will enjoy chasing the ball and playing with you they won’t even know you are helping them get a work out. You can also use a new rope toy or their favorite toy to play with.
Tip # 2 – Take daily walks. Your dog is lonely while you are gone during the day or even if you work from home they have not had your attention. They will love seeing you get out the leash and use it to take him/her for a walk. If you dog gets tired easily then start slow and go a little farther each day. This is a double bonus because you will get more exercise too!
Tips #3 – Provide Adequate Water Supply. Once your dog is up and moving more he/she is going to get more thirsty so make sure to provide plenty of fresh water. If you are going on long walks carry a portable collapsible water bowl with you so they can get a drink on the go.
Tips #4 – Offer Healthy Rewards. Dogs are very reward driven but giving them their favorite sausage treat or dog biscuits can defeat the exercise your dog has accomplished. In place of these high calorie treats, give them healthy options such as small pieces of green beans, carrots, apple pieces or skinless chicken.
Tips #5 – Feed Them Well. This means measured amounts of dog food with regular meal times and high quality food. As a puppy, we started feeding our dog: Dog Chow® Puppy Chow® Complete. From Puppy Chow, we moved onto feeding him Dog Chow® Complete Adult. But since our dog is closer to being an old man than he is a young pup, we have switched him to BENEFUL® Healthy Weight. With 10% fewer calories that BENEFUL® Originals with Real Beef, this dog food will help us manage his weight because let’s face it, we all slow down a bit as we get older. I also love that it is made with real farm raised chicken as the first ingredient and whole grains and vegetables.
While I think it is safe to say that learning how to exercise your dog is important because every dog benefits from lots of healthy exercise and activity, however every dog is different and needs different types of nutrition. No matter which food you buy there is an amazing variety of Purina dry dog food products available at Target in the pet aisle. You can also take advantage of these special cartwheel offers:
20% off Dog Chow (all sizes) – 3/5 – 3/11
20% off Beyond Dry (all sizes) – 3/12 – 3/18
20% off ONE dry (all sizes) – 3/19 – 3/25
Before long you and your dog will notice that these simple Tips on How to Exercise Your Dog has you both feeling better. Use these as a stepping stone to get your dog active and discover how great you both feel. The sky is the limit when you get up and get moving.

If you are looking for some great kids smoothie recipes then you will love this Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity smoothie recipe! This recipe has all the yummy fruit flavor your kids will love with a full serving of veggies too! The best part is, your kids will never know that their fruit smoothie has leafy greens in it, and won’t even be able to taste it if they do know! Smoothies are great for breakfasts and snacks.
1 c fresh kale leaves
1 c frozen berries
1/2 c fruit juice
5.3 oz container Dannon Whole Milk Yogurt, any flavor
Put all ingredients into a blender. Blend until smooth and serve immediately.
The key ingredient that you will find in every smoothie is yogurt. No matter which fruits, vegetables, juices, or supplements you add, if you don’t start with delicious, natural, whole milk yogurt your smoothie won’t be as healthy as it can be. We all want better more natural ingredients in our foods and I am happy to share that Dannon is listening. Dannon yogurt is now made with whole milk and all natural non-GMO ingredients.
In addition to yogurt made with whole milk, natural and non-GMO ingredients, Dannon has also pledged transparency and sustainability. Labels will indicate presence of non-GMO and GMO products which is a huge step to help consumers make better food chooses. They are sourcing ingredients sustainably by working directly with farmers they know.
If your like me, the main motivation behind making these smoothie is to get more fruits and vegetables into my kids. Trust me, they will have no idea you hid kale in this smoothie. But yogurt is also god for them (and you). The active cultures in bacteria help replenish the good bacteria in your gut. Those same cultures make yogurt easier to digest especially for folks who have trouble with lactose.
What are your favorite smoothie ingredients? Do you have any tips and tricks for sneaking extra fruits and veggies into your kids diet? Please, share your ideas in the comments below.

Being a blogger can be one of the most rewarding jobs, and last week is a prime example of why I love what I do. I was invited to attend the 25th Annual Future City Competition and share with our readers more information about the competition.
To say I was blown away by this competition is an understatement. I left fired up to start my own team of homeschoolers to compete next year! Let me tell you why I went from knowing nothing about this competition to being all in to coach my own team in just one day.
Future City starts with a question—how can we make the world a better place? To answer it, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future that showcase their solution to a citywide sustainability issue. Why is Project Based Learning so great!
2. Project Based Learning answers the age old question when are we ever going to need to know or use this knowledge in the real world. Many projects directly connect the students with their communities and ask students to solve real world problems and viable solutions that don’t just work in the classroom. Future City sets the standard high for real world and community interaction as students work to solve problems and create cities that also build community.
3. Project Based Learning improves learning, plain and simple. There is no doubt about it when you get to create with your hands, communicate your ideas in both writing, video, and live presentation, and most importantly have fun you will remember what you have learned. With so many ways to interact with what they have been taught, student are able to apply their knowledge in other situations as well.
4. Project Based Learning builds the skills needed for students to be successful in the future. Whether it is college, career, or life, students will build the skills they need through PBL including taking initiative, confidence, responsibility, time and team management, and communication.
5. Project Based Learning makes school more engaging and teaching more enjoyable. Students and teachers rediscover the joy of learning together as they work on meaningful solutions to real problems.
Students present their solutions via a virtual city design (using SimCity); a 1,500-word city essay; a scale model; a project plan, and a presentation to judges at Regional Competitions in January. Regional winners represent their region at the National Finals in Washington, DC in February.
The competition is open to public, private, and homeschool students.
Registration is only $25 per team and teams are limited to a $100 budget for materials to keep the competition affordable so that more students can participate.
Through participation in the competitions students will:

After attending the competition and learning more about project based learning I am inspired to form a team and volunteer as their coach in next year’s competition. Hopefully, you will be inspired to lead students in your community as well.
