Fathers Day is almost here, and if there is one thing I want to make sure my husband knows this Fathers Day, it’s how much I appreciate him. My husband and I are pretty young parents (He is 28, I’m about to be 27) of a rocking 7 year old who is the light in both of our lives. Having her so young meant that we had to grow up before a lot of our friends, and I’ll admit, it was hard. Hard but so worth it. We traded in late nights out with friends for late nights rocking our baby back to sleep. We traded trips to Vegas, to trips to Disney World, and my husband traded his rockstar dreams for a degree and a night job.

My husband working nights is one of the hardest things that we deal with on a day to basis because it means we don’t get to spend as much time together as we would all like, but he does it to make sure we have everything we need and live comfortably, and so I can stay home and take care of my daughter and the house. One day we know that he will be able to switch to day shift, but until that happens, we focus on spending as much time with him as we can!

So this Fathers Day I want to thank my husband for all he does!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the picture above this sentence is worth my entire life. Our family may be small but our love is huge! I want to thank my husband for so many things, but where to start? How to you thank someone that has given you everything you want and need in life and so much more? I’m not sure, but I’m going to try!

I want to thank him for always making time for my daughter, even when he is exhausted. After working 10 hours he still comes home and reads stories to my daughter. Their favorite way to enjoy daddy daughter story time in under a blanket fort with the lights out and using an Energizer Headlight to light their way. This fun idea came to my husband during a trip to Walmart while looking for camping supplies. We came across the Energizer Headlight while looking for a lamp for our trip and he knew he had to grab it for story time the night day. They take turns wearing the Energizer Headlight and whoever has it on gets to read the story! I’m not sure if my husband knows the impact this time spent with our daughter impacts her, but it is one of the things that helps her get through the time spent apart while he is at work.

I also want to thank my husband for being kind, gentle, and patient. My daughter has something called Sensory Processing Disorder, which can make some elements of parenting hard. What this means for us is that we have to be a little more patient when it comes to her emotions, and how we handle them. And let me tell you, my husband is a pro! She tends to be a little fearful, and my husband is always there to calm her down and make her laugh. And for that, I will be forever grateful.

And finally, I want to thank my husband for being the constant light in my daughters life. I don’t know what we would do without him. I can only hope we light up his life the way he lights up ours. Happy Fathers Day Babe, we love you to the moon and back!
