Domestic Diva: Takes on the Dining room

I have to say I usually put flowers on the table. I recently had to do a photography assignment using cool colors. I came up with the idea to use a vase with beads in it. Then I places a bracelet on the base of the vase. I believe I paid $.50 for the vase. The bracelet was from a company called inpink. I just love them! Then one set of beads is from my daughters collection. The shell necklace was from goodwill and the other necklace was one I made. I though it looked pretty neat.

It is also a nice way to display your jewelry when you aren’t wearing it. I do have to say that my daughter had the most fun making her table decor. She loves to put stuff in water so this was a super idea. You could do barbie shoes and glitter for a girl party or you could put in marbles or cars for a boy party. I never thought water and some jewelry could look so cool. If you like my image you can see how I created it on my Pinterest post. I wrote about how I created the Pinterest worthy Look.

What are some ideas of things you would place in water to create unique table decor?

Memories: Setting the table

This series on how to make the most out of the time you have with your children is brought to you by Amee at Madame Deals and Sharon at Mom on Dealz.

Memories are created by taking a moment and making it special. I recently went to a painting party and painted the picture above. When I got home I placed the picture on the counter. I had a wonderful time and the picture was part of the fun. I never intended to do anything with it. Then next morning I came downstairs and my daughter asked if we could hang it. She helped me find the perfect place. We spent a lot of time thinking about where it should go. The perfect place happened to be at their eye level. Then she wanted us to cut flowers for her table. We had a wonderful time decorating the kitchen and her table. It got me thinking it is a really nice idea to have a special retreat created by the children. I would have never thought to create a cafe inside just for them. I look forward to more decorating projects with my children.

Fagioli Soup with Pasta Crock-pot Style

Prepare a Hearty Dinner in minimal time with this Crock Pot Fagioli Soup with Pasta!

fagioli soup

I love soup and the first soup I ever learned to make was Pea Soup. The funny thing is I don’t eat Pea Soup. Ever since then I have wanted to widen my repertoire. When I met my husband, I learned to make homemade Chicken Noodle Soup from his mom. I have made Ham and Potato and decided to branch out into Fagioli Soup with Pasta. After looking at several recipes this is what I ended up doing. The best part was my daughter who doesn’t like Tomatoes ate the soup and loved it.

Life Happens

A moment in time is fleeting but a decision to live life minute by minute is imperative. Our once in a lifetime moment came to us by surprise. We had two amazing children. I was embarking back toward my career from my stint as a stay at home mom. I had begun to build my professional portfolio and ease my way into a part-time job. Then we found out we were expecting again. The expectation and timing of having another child was worrisome financially and emotionally. We sat down as a couple and I knew my husband was elated because he would have as many children as possible and I wasn’t as excited. I am a planner and I had planned for two children. We had the perfect house and car for two children. We had the perfect table and the perfect names already and having a third child meant we were out numbered.

There are some things you can plan for and some things are left to fate. On that day my husband held my hand and said, “This is meant to be.” I thought about it and decided how you handle a surprise correlates to what your experience will be. It was a rough pregnancy coupled with many hospital stays and visits. This baby was a fighter and so was I. The moment we met him our lives haven’t been the same since. We now believe in miracles and that every plan you make you need to have a back up plan and a back up for that plan.

The way you handle a surprise is as important as the plan you have in place. It is important to me to provide the best possible experiences for my children. I work hard to teach them how to love with their entire heart. I hope they live every moment thinking about the endless possibilities in their future. Our son taught me the greatest gifts are a surprise and every time he says “I love you more.” I say, “I loved you first and longer.” I know that you can protect your children from failure or heartache but you can purchase protection to assume some of the risks associated with surprise. I know that with proper insurance I have the reassurance I need to worry about the less important things in life like will the stickers he just applied to the window come off.

In honor of Life Insurance Awareness Month, the nonprofit LIFE Foundation is giving away great prizes for the best Life Happens moments. You can enter the contest any time before Friday, October 7th. Make sure to encourage your friends and family to vote for your story as the Life Happens moments with the most votes will win (voting ends Friday, October 14th).
