Pulled pork.. without any work?

I try every week to add a new meal to our menu. I attempt to follow the food guru and 30 minute meal making queen, Rachael Ray. The best part of my quest is I use items that I bought on sale so these meals are yummy and affordable… and oh, yes they can be completed in 30 minutes or less!

I have to say sometimes you just have to cheat. I said it you need to cheat and buy already cooked items. I know gasp I am not super woman or super chef. I am just trying to hold it together on any given day.

This is what I suggest buy the Jack Daniels $9.98 (I think) pulled pork from Sam’s Club it was YUMMY. It cooks in just 12 minutes. I bought $5 worth of macaroni salad and hamburger buns for $1.29 and we had some lemonade. It was so good I brought it to a party. It is fine to cheat. I mean everyone has to eat. It does not mean I have to prepare and cook the meal right?

What is your favorite cheat meal?

Gavel Babble: Get Your Sexy Back

I would like to introduce a new article series. My friend Miranda “Mandy” is a legal wizard with a unique perspective on love, life, and the law. I enjoy reading her articles and I hope you do as well. Amee

Get Your Sexy Back

Since 2009, my best girlfriend and I made a pact to try things that were completely out of our comfort zone. I don’t like the term “bucket list”… but rather, a “to do” list. Traveling, skydiving, exotic foods and oh yes pole dancing, were among some of the front runners on our list. Unfortunately, everything got put on hold for a while after I underwent back to back abdominal surgeries in August and October of 2009, changed jobs and overall – daily life got in the way. The one constant (besides our friendship) was that we never gave up our “to do” list—so you can only imagine my surprise and delight when each of us received an email from the owner of Pole Fitness Miami, Susan Hilferty, inviting us to take any class of our choosing! It didn’t take long for us to agree upon the “Hot and Sultry” pole dancing class.

I have to say, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect? As hard as my girlfriend and I have tried to keep in shape, we more or less dabble in the exercise arena instead of what we should be doing which is diving right in! Some of the comments on the ride over were “do you think we are going to look ridiculous?” and “What did we get ourselves into?” We were greeted at the door with a glass of champagne to take the edge off. (Side bar: I could have used 2 or 3 glasses but I didn’t want to look like a lush for my first go round -pun intended-!) The studio was dimly lit with upbeat music playing in the background. The studio was divided into two rooms with different themed classes taking place at the same time. Susan could not have been a better hostess quelling all of our insecurities and fears. After talking to Susan for a while, I found out that a good portion of Pole Fitness Miami’s clientele are women just like me with kids, careers, husbands … essentially women that have very little time to do things for themselves. Karla's Korner: The Real You

I am proud to introduce a new column to Madame Deals! I think we all need a touch point a place we can go to be inspired. Karla is my children’s teacher, a good friend, and a person with a heart of gold. I hope that her words will inspire you to do more. We are only as good as the people we surround ourselves with. It is important to listen with your heart and proceed with your eyes open. Enjoy!

The Real You?

Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to deliver a sermon (or message) at my church. After pondering for quite some time I decided to speak on image; the image that society thinks we should have versus the image that God wishes us to have. And while I am not going to re-write my sermon, it seems that I have been inundated with the idea of image and its importance ever since I wrote about it.

While I am not a morning television person I caught a commercial the other day while getting ready for work that sparked my interest a bit. The product was a body slimming “shrug”; you know one of those things that looks like a really short cardigan sweater. It had sleeves that you could adjust to go all the way down the arm or all the way above the elbow. It fit securely around the wearers back and secured underneath the front of the bra. The idea behind this product was to secure and hold the extra “stuff” in place, giving the affect of a slim upper body and arms. As the narrator of this commercial continued the presentation she proclaimed that this slimming shrug would take away and fix unwanted bulges. I found myself talking back to the television trying to explain that it is not a fix, it does not take away the bulges it merely covers them up temporarily. Of course my husband walked in on this one sided conversation and thought that I had completely lost my mind once and for all.Continue reading

ASK A Blogger: Pitch Letter

How do you write  a pitch letter? This question comes up often. Why? I have a lot of bloggers that want to know how did you get that? Why did they respond to you and not me? It is true I am not prettier or smarter nor do I have a better site then you do. What I do have is a little more Chutzpah. I also have a formula for success. I tried to simplify my letter so you could actually use the information right now and write a pitch letter that yields a result. I encourage you to link to work samples from your site so they can see what you do.

Personal- Do not send a letter that is addressed to Dear Madame or Sir. You need to do your research and find a name. I do not care if you call the company and ask who is in charge of their web based advertising and promotions. I think finding a person’s name means you are willing to go above and beyond to get the job done. It is all about the first impression.

Imagination- You have one sentence to sell them. This sentence should be used in your subject line and repeated in your letter. What can you say that will get their attention? It is just like writing an article you have ten words before someone clicks through or moves on.

Thoughtful- You need to do your research. How does this company advertise normally. What groups are they targeting what is their lead product in most of their campaigns. What tools are they currently using. How do you compare? How do you excel? How could you represent them and increase their market share and revenue.

Change- When you have determined their normal advertising methodology what changes can you make that would impact their bottom line. You need to state this clearly I would mention your research and I would mention why your methodology would benefit them.

Hook- This is it the last line in your letter you need to hook them and reel them in. You need to make them want to work with you or at the very least contact you.
