The day I realized I was overweight.

This is me, (Rachelle, the newest edition to the Madame Deals Team!) on 08/05/12, My birthday. This was the day I realized I was fat. I know some people are thinking..How could you not know that? Well, no one told me, ever. My story is a little different from a lot of other overweight individuals. I was never bullied in high school, I had lots of friends, and no one ever made fun of me for my weight. Sure, I knew that I was bigger than most of my friends, but I never looked at myself and thought “wow, my weight is out of control”.

I often wonder if I had the opposite of Body Dysmorphic Disorder, which is a disorder in which people that have a perfectly normal feature, think that they are disfigured. This mostly occurs in very small women that look in the mirror and see a very large woman. When I looked in the mirror, I saw a normal sized person with a few extra curves. As a 5’5 woman, in a size 24 pants,this was obviously not the case. I looked in the mirror that day, like I do everyday, and was shocked at what was staring back at me…

Who was this person? This couldn’t be me..this person looked sick, and unhealthy, and most of all fat. I was so angry. Why had no one told me? I slipped into a depression which was a new feeling for me. I am a generally bubbly, happy person. It didn’t take my husband long to figure out something was wrong. A few days after my “I’m fat” realization, I broke down to my husband and asked him why he never told me how big I was. He was very understanding, and told me that I always looked perfect to him, but if I thought I had a problem, then we needed to do something about it now. So that is exactly what I did.

Weight loss is not an easy decision. It’s not a take a magic pill and drink some water, kind of situation. It is a total lifestyle change. I knew I was ready for this, but that didn’t make me anymore excited about doing it.

That day, I woke up and began researching. There are so many ways to lose weight, and so many products that help you do it. I sat down and wrote a list. The list contained what I wanted to change, and what I was going to do to change it. I gave myself a week to start making a change. September 20th was the day I started on my weight loss journey.

At first I’ll admit, I was miserable. I cut out sodas completely, and let me tell you, I loved my sodas. I went through horrible caffeine withdrawal, which actually made me want to never drink a soda again. The fact that my body was having such a hard time dealing with not having soda, scared me. I also got a calorie counting app, (which was free in the app store) and started tracking everything that I ate. Boy, was that eye opening. You don’t realize how much crap you put into your body, until it’s in black and white in front of you. I now eat between 1,200-1,400 calories a day, and I’m never hungry! I mostly cook from scratch at home, and I am NOT a cook by any means, but I promise it is easier then you think! I will be posting some low calorie, low effort yummy recipes soon!

After getting into the groove of eating better, I knew it was time to start working out. I hated working out,and didn’t know if I was going to be able to do it everyday. Thank goodness for Youtube! They offer TONS of fun, and FREE workout videos. You don’t have to go out and buy fancy gym equipment,(although I do have a basic treadmill which I found on craigslist for $50 and I LOVE) or a gym membership, you just need a TV and some work ethic! I will be writing a blog post about work out tips and tricks that I have learned soon, so watch out for that one!

The next thing I needed to do, was find something to help me boost my weight loss. I did some research and found a product that I believed in. I started using the supplements and other aids offered through the company and I knew I found something that was going to help me along the way.


Today, is January 31st, 2012. I am 55 pounds down. Am I where I want to be? No. Do I know I’m going to get there? Absolutely. This is part 1 in my series, if you will, about my journey and what has helped me along the way.       Thank you SO much! It was a hard post to write, but I wanted to share it with everyone, so that if someone else out there was feeling like me, they knew they weren’t alone! I will be writing more in this “series” so watch out for it :)

  4. Marcia says thoughts. Seems like they are all over the place. First and foremost congrats on your weight loss (Anna,you too) it is beyond awesome! I want to be a “Loser” but I have so much to lose and learn..Where do I start and with what do I stat with..counting calories,carbs,fat..what’s the best? What does everyone take to help them. Wraps aren’t for me,unless they are the ones you eat. I just bought the Richard Simmons Food Mover..even that makes no sense to me,like am I suppose to stick to only the foods he listed or can I go off the list..It all just swarms in my head..Thanks for any help anyone is willing to give!

      I have found that counting Calories is what has really worked for me. It gives you 1 thing to focus on, rather then trying to add up every gram of fat, calories, carbs, etc. I use the Calorie Counter App. and I love it! It has every food you could possibly think of in there! (along with fast food and sit down restaurants!) I also highly recommend taking your daily vitamins! I also take supplements from my It works! Company! I take a multi vitamin, a fat fighter, and regular (which keeps your colon from backing up, which if it does you can be holding up to 8 meals in there, ew!) and I drink water ALL day, I allow myself 1 non water drink a day, and it’s usually decaff tea, or crystal light :).     Congrats on your weight loss. I have decided I finally need to get serious about my weight and losing it. I drink water at work and will flavor it with Crystal Light (Walmart Brand) but I make sure I drink plain water before and after. I also like Lipton Green Tea. My husband just gave up Diet Pepsi so I understand what you mean about the withdrawal. He said he will never drink it again. He tried and got sick. I am cutting back portions and I decided today to stop after 8 pm any type of food. I hope I can stick with that LOL I am trying Raspberry Ketones that I heard about from a friend and saw on Dr. Oz. I was trying to Weight Watchers but figuring out points was frustrating me so I think I’m going to try the counting calories. I look forward to reading your tips and any one else who shares. One thing we all have to remember is that this didn’t happen over night so losing isn’t going to happen over night either. Also if you “fall” just get back up and start again. :)
