Sunday Afternoon Shopping: Rite Aid, Kroger & Harris Teeter

I went shopping this afternoon for some things that we needed. I went to Rite Aid, Kroger and Harris Teeter. I also made a quick stop at Old Navy. My 2 year old needed long sleeve shirts and Old Navy had an extra 50% off clearance items. I spent $6 on (3) long sleeve shirts and a pair of flip flops.

Rite Aid

We were out of soda and Rite Aid has a pretty good deal this week. My Rite Aid was out of the Nivea lotion- bummer since it was one of the items on my list.

I ended up buying:

(3) Pepsi 12 pk., 3/$9.99
(2) Quaker Instant Oatmeal, $2.50 ea.
(1) Huggies Diapers, $8.99
(2) Boxes Snack Bars, $1 ea. (filler items)

Used $5/25 coupon
Used (2) $2/1 oatmeal coupons
Used (1) $2/1 Huggies coupon
Paid $15.60, Received $3 +UP for the Pepsi, $1 +UP for the Quaker and $2 +UP for the Huggies

Kroger is where I do my main grocery shopping. I did another round of the frozen food mega event items since I take the frozen entrees to work for lunch.

The General Mills cereal deal did not go as planned. The ad says Buy (4) General Mills items in one transaction and save $6 which makes the cereal $1.49 each. The $6 did not come off for me. I made sure to buy the right boxes too! There were signs all over the cereal isle for this promo too. There are more items included and the bigger boxes work although the prices are higher. The customer service rep credited me $6 on my debit card. Make sure to check your receipt!

Spent: $47.94
Saved: $39.29

Not my best trip to Kroger by far but I did get meat, milk (2 gallons missing from picture), produce and bread that I did not have coupons for. Another bummer, the catalina machine was not printing. There were several supposed coupons that printed out blank- I hate that!

Harris Teeter

The picture below looks a little sparse if you look at how much I spent. That is because the 40 lbs. of dog food did not make the picture!

Spent: $24.84 ($13.50 of it dog food)
Saved: $38.50

Overall I had a good shopping day! How did you do? Anyone go shopping today?

I never feel like I save a lot at Kroger, which is my main grocery stop as well. I always buy 2 gallons of milk which are almost always full price so there’s over $5. I did get three gallons last week for $1.19 each! I froze one which I’ve never done so we’ll see how it turns out but I couldn’t pass up that price!

      Hi Caroline,
It depends on the week at Kroger. Some weeks are GREAT! This week not so much. But, they do have some of the lower produce prices compared to other stores I shop at.

Freezing milk works! I tried it a few months back when I found gallons of milk on markdown. It came in really handy when we ran out all of the sudden. My boys love milk so we go through a lot!

    You did great :)
I went shopping yesterday and over all spent 29.00 something (not sure) I know that I saved about 32.00 I had ton of coupons :) and bought yogurt for $0.50 each (pack of four) and milk for $1.99 which was great, because usually it’s near 3! I got meat, potatoes and lots of produce.

I was wondering where you got the $5/$25 coupon that you used at CVS. Was that a CVS coupon or one of the RiteAid coupons? I was wondering if those RiteAid coupons could be used at CVS. It seems like it is easier to get those, even from Redplum than it is for me to receive CVS coupons. I think the big red coupon printer hates me!

Sorry it’s been a long day. I just realized you shopped at Rite Aid today! Forgive me. But do you happen to know if CVS will accept those RiteAid coupons.

      • Madame Deals says

        Hi Gail,
Most CVS stores do not accept competitors coupons. It doesn’t hurt to ask though! Maybe you will get lucky! Just ask when you are checking out if they accept competitors coupons. Good luck!
