Stand up to Domestic Violence with the Allstate’s Foundation Purple Purse Campaign
Disclosure: This post is part of a sponsored campaign with The Allstate Foundation and MomSelect. This is something that is near and dear to my heart, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Did you know 74% of Americans personally know someone who is or has been abused? That number is something that needs to be changed and fast! October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month. Domestic Violence is a cause that impacts millions of people every year, and it is our turn to put the cause out there and see what we can do to help.
I’ve personally been touched by domestic violence by watching a very dear friend of mine go through years of horrible abuse. Most people would say, “Well why did she stay!?” There is no simple answer of why someone getting abused stay with their abusers. In my friends case, she has children involved, and no means of taking care of them without her abusers help. He kept her down and made her feel like there was no way out, and this would be her life forever. This changed when she went to the YWCA and found out that their was something she could do, and she stood up against her abuser.
Here is how you can help with the Allstate Foundation Purple Purse Campaign
The Allstate Foundation’s Purple Purse Campaign is a wonderful program that donates $5 to YWCA for every “purse” that is passed. I received an actual purse that I will be passing along to a friend, but you can also pass along a digital purse, and it will also help donate $5 for every purse passed!
All you have to do is visit www.PurplePurse.com and enter the code above and Allstate will donate $5 to the YWCA for every person that enters that code up to $350,000! Nearly 1 in 4 women experience domestic violence during their lifetime. Research shows that lacking financial knowledge and resources are the main factors that keep victims in relationships with their abusers. That’s why The Allstate Foundation is taking action. With the expertise that comes from being the corporate foundation of a financial services company, their Domestic Violence Program helps provide survivors with the financial knowledge, skills and resources that they need to help get safe, stay safe and thrive!
