Saving Money on Printer Ink

Printing coupons uses quite a bit of ink and paper. Free or cheap paper seems easy to come by. I am well stocked on free paper thanks to Office Max. Printer ink is another story! I have an HP printer and the ink cartridges are expensive brand new. I have tried to have them refilled at Walgreens, but they cannot refill my particular cartridge.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to try ordering remanufactured ink cartridges online. There are several companies that offer this service. I compared prices for my ink cartridges- including the shipping fee.

What I discovered was that my HP ink cartridge comes in a extra large size! The XL cartridge prints approximately 600 pages for $16 were as the regular cartridge only prints 200 for $10. I am so happy to discover this since changing ink cartridges is a real pain; not to mention the cost per print savings!

I have been using my remanufactured ink cartridge for a week now and the print quality has been great. I also ordered enough so that hopefully I will not have to order for a long time.

Staples has a great program for recycling ink cartridges. If you bring in any empty ink cartridge, you will earn $3 in Staples Rewards. At the end of the month, Staples will send you the Staples Rewards in the mail to use in store as Staples money. You can recycle up to 10 ink cartridges a month and earn $3 per cartridge. Anyone know of any other stores that give you credit for recycled cartridges?

Here are some of the places I looked at for ordering my ink cartridges:

Ink Orbit Free shipping on orders over $55.

4 InkJets is offering 10% off with code SPRINGTEN plus FREE shipping on orders over $50.

Carrot Ink $10 off orders over $40. Free shipping on orders $45 or more after discounts.

Do you have any other tips for saving on printer ink?

    Found this info too
Your printer is a place you can save bucks. Change the font on the documents you print. A Dutch company,, found that Century Gothic and Times New Roman use significantly less ink than some of the more common fonts. It found that Century Gothic, for example, uses about 30 percent less ink than Arial.

I like to use the Staples Rewards as well. I recently read on – be sure to set your printer to “draft” mode and also the type of font you use can save on ink as well! Stopping by from Coupon Teacher.
