Let Them Dip Their Veggies in Homemade Ranch Dressing!

Last week, Rachelle wrote a great post about getting your kids to eat vegetables. It got me thinking about how my kids are more likely to eat veggies that are dipped in some kind of dressing. Ranch is a particular favorite around here, and a while back we started making our own Ranch Dressing. It’s easy to make, and we can prepare a big batch in just a few minutes. And best of all, it doesn’t have any icky preservatives like most store-bought salad dressings.

This is the basic recipe – you can adjust the seasonings or consistency to suit your family’s tastes. It will yield about 1 1/2 cups of dressing, but I usually double it so that we can use it on salads too.

Recipes For Picky Kids: Homemade Ranch Dressing

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried dill week
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, and buttermilk. (If you prefer a thicker dressing, you can leave out the buttermilk and use 1 cup of mayonnaise instead.)
  • Whisk in seasonings.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Your picky kids will love to dip their carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, and other healthy veggies in this dressing. And it will taste even better since they helped make it!

Cooking for picky kids can be a challenge.
