What’s for Dinner Wednesday? French Onion Soup

Soup! Soup! Soup!

I make a huge pot then I place them in ziplock bags and I freeze them flat.. Wait for the soup to cool before you place them in the bag.

I love french onion soup. It is cheap quick and easy!

I substitute beef cubes and water for beef stock to save even more.

3 tablespoons of butter in the pan used to brown the onions

4 Lbs of onions you just throw them in food processor

2 Red onions also easily chopped by the food processor.. I got mine on Amazon for $29.99..

salt and pepper to taste

1/2 bottle of sherry cooking wine

6 cups of beef broth or use the cubes and water like I do

I use stale bread and break it up. I throw it on top of the soup with melted cheese on top. I usually do a blend of mozzarella and Gruyere (cuts the cost).

This is super easy brown your onions until they are clear and throw them in the pot with the ingredients above.

This soup is so good my husband’s face got stuck in the bowl! LOL

I try every week to add a new meal to our menu. . The best part of my quest is I use items that I bought on sale so these meals are yummy and affordable… and oh, yes they can be completed in 30 minutes or less!

    With the winter season rushing in, it’s time to break away from canned soup and fill the house with the scents of warm, comfort. French onion being one of my absolute favorites, I can’t wait to test drive this much simpler version. I might even sprinkle a few bacon crumbles on top of the melted cheese :-)
