Polish Sausage, Potatoes, and Sauerkraut Crockpot Recipe

One of my favorite comfort foods is Sauerkraut. I know it may not sound as comforting as macaroni and cheese or ice cream but I loved when my mom made Polish Sausage and Sauerkraut. There as always something about the smells that would fill the house and the full bellies after dinner that brought comfort. With my busy schedule, I found that I could quickly assemble it in the crockpot and smell the awesomeness all day long. Here is my simple recipe for a little Polish comfort.

 Polish Crockpot Dinner

Ingredients:

2 lbs polish sausage or keilbasa, cut into pieces

3 large cans or jars of sauerkraut, drained and rinsed

6-7 large potatoes, washed and sliced

1 cup of buter

1 cup of brown sugar

1 large onion chopped

Directions:

In small sauce pan, melt butter and saute onion.

When onion is soft add brown sugar and stir till it melts.

In Crockpot, combine sauerkraut, potatoes, and sausage.

Pour butter, onion, and brown sugar mix on top.

Fold in and cook on low for 7-9 hours.

Serve with a nice warm loaf of bread.

Hi I’m Gwendolyn and I have been a stay at home mom since 2009. I have been with my husband, James, for 10 years and we are proud parents of Jayme (8) and Nicholas (14). We are also parents to 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 hamsters, 2 fish and a snake. My father-in-law lives with us so it is always non-stop at our house. I had the honor of becoming a step-parent when I got married and have a great relationship with my step-son. I always used coupons and shopped for bargains but was forced to step up my game when my husband was disabled in 2005. I get an incredible rush from saving money and finding great deals. My life is a constant journey and I look forward to sharing it with you all.
