The topic this week for the Money Saving Monday post over at Inexpensively is: Party Planning.
One of the most expensive items when hosting a party is the food. This is especially true if you are hosting a large party. My tip for saving on food costs is planning! When I have a party, I usually know far in advance. I start planning my menu around the sales in the coming weeks before the party. Take a look at your pantry. Do you have things that need to be used up? Take an inventory of what you have at home.
I then look up recipes. One of my favorite sites is All Recipes. You can search by the ingredients you have on hand. Once I get an idea of what the menu will be, I look at the sales circular. I will stock-up on the non-perishable items well in advance of the party…beverages, snacks, chips etc.
One of the easiest items I have made for a large party is pulled pork sandwiches. Pork roasts go on sale regularly. I just put the pork roast in the crockpot with beef broth and seasoning and let it cook all day. Take the cooked pork out, pull it apart and add BBQ sauce. This feeds a large group, it is easy and affordable.
