I live in Florida, so my daughters (ages 4 and 7) play outdoors nearly all year long. We have neighbors with children of all ages and our backyard is a popular hang-out spot. Most afternoons, you can find at least 3 or 4 kids playing out back. We are always looking for new and interesting outdoor toys to keep the kids entertained. Little Tikes has always been a favorite brand, so I was thrilled when I was given the opportunity to review the Sand & Sea Play Table! We’ve never had a water table or sandbox so this seemed like the perfect addition to our backyard.
I ordered the Play Table online – ordering was a breeze, and my item arrived within just 3 or 4 business days. I tend to be a bit clumsy with assembling toys and products, and I’d read some online reviews suggesting that assembly could be tricky, so I decided to let my husband put it together. He used a cordless power screwdriver to attach the legs to the table (screws were included in the package), and he was able to put the whole thing together in about 10 minutes. This was the only assembly required. My husband recommends using a power tool to assemble this product because the screws are long and could be difficult to reach with a traditional screwdriver.
Once the table was assembled, I realized that the umbrella was missing from the box. I contacted Little Tikes Customer Service via email (it was Sunday and outside of regular business hours). I received a personal response from Little Tikes within 24 hours and was informed that my replacement part had already been ordered. I received the umbrella 3 days later.
The Sand & Sea Play Table is a sandbox and water table in one! It has two separate play areas – one for sand play and one for water play. The sand portion holds one 50 pound bag of play sand, and the water section holds up to two gallons of water. It also has a plug for draining the water. The umbrella is larger than I expected it to be, and it’s great for keeping the kids out of the direct sunlight while they play. The Play Table also comes with a lid for each section. The lids are relatively lightweight and probably wouldn’t hold up in a storm, but they work just fine for everyday use.
The Play Table also comes with a few toys and accessories, including two boats, a shovel, and a sifter. It also comes with a bridge, tower, and water wheel which you can set in the ready-made grooves in the water section. These pieces don’t lock in, so they can easily be moved around and used creatively.
Once assembled, the Play Table is about 18 inches tall. It’s recommended for ages 2-6 and the height would be just right for a toddler – but older kids like mine (ages 4 and 7) will be more comfortable sitting while they play in the sand and water. My daughters love imaginative play, so almost as soon as I put the table outside, they turned it into a lagoon for their mermaid dolls. My 7 year old said that it reminds her of being at the beach and that she and her friends can use it when they play “Lord of the Rings.” And my 4 year old thinks that it’s perfect for “playing mermaids.”
I wish I’d had this Play Table when my kids were younger because I think it would keep a toddler quite captivated! But even older kids like mine will find it entertaining and will love to incorporate it into imaginary play. It’s fantastic for tactile and sensory play – and kids of all ages will love to splash and get dirty!
The Sand & Sea Play Table is available exclusively on LittleTikes.com and retails for $129.99. My kids give this outdoor toy a big thumbs up! And one lucky winner will too – Little Tikes is giving a Sand & Sea Play Table to one of our readers! Find out how to enter this amazing giveaway here:
