Kid Egg Recipes: Pickled Eggs Recipe

Love deviled eggs but hate the mess? This is a great make ahead recipe that children can help make, then serve themselves on a busy morning. No heating or cutting is required in the morning.

Ever peel a hardboiled egg but have the white too messed up to hold the filling of deviled eggs? If your assistant helps peel the hardboiled eggs- do not worry if a bit of the white is peeled as well, they will still taste great pickled!

Kid Egg Recipes: Pickled Eggs Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • Hardboiled peeled eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup cider vinegar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp mustard
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp whole pickling spice
  • 1 sliced onion

INSTRUCTIONS

Mix everything except the eggs together in a pot. Place the eggs in a jar. Heat mixture (everything but eggs) till boiling then pour the hot liquid over the peeled eggs.

**Adult supervision and help is needed with the heating and pouring of the liquid.

Refrigerate. Leave the eggs in the liquid overnight for the best flavor. In the morning enjoy a yummy quick breakfast!

Hints and Tips:

We recycle an old pickle jar and do at least one egg per person when we do this recipe. These measurements work well for 8 eggs. We have also found that after we finish eating the eggs we can reheat the liquid and spices to use for another batch of boiled eggs. In order for the eggs to be as well flavored as the first batch we leave them in the liquid at least 24 hours.
