Great Tips For Fighting Holiday Stress

It’s snowing here in Tennessee today which can only mean one thing, the holidays are officially here! This is one of my favorite times of the year. I love the cold weather which is perfect for snuggling, I love the fun music and decorations, and I’ll admit it, the food and gifts are pretty awesome as well! With all the wonderful things that come with the holiday season, it can also be a stressful time. Finding that perfect gift for family and friends, cleaning house for company, and trying to remember the real reason for the season can be a plateful for sure. So taking a deep breath and trying to enjoy the season is important and and I wanted to share with you some great tips for fighting holiday stress that work for me!

Here are my great tips for fighting holiday stress:

1. Have a Plan! When it comes to the holidays make sure you have a plan of action. A list of people to buy gifts for, of events to attend, and any other holiday activities. Being able to check things off you list can be soothing and also can help you visualize what needs to be done so you don’t feel overwhelmed.

2.Stop and smell the Citrus! Studies show that smelling a little citrus throughout the day can boost you well-being and help alleviate stress. So grab some of your favorite citrus essential oil and dab it on your wrists before hitting the hectic holiday sales.

3.Take time for yourself! I know how pressed for time most of us are around the holidays but it is still important to take a little time for yourself. For some of us that might be sneaking away for a pedicure, or it might be as simple as 15 minutes a day to read a great book. Whatever you can do, don’t forget about your needs too!

4. Don’t overspend! It’s easy to get wrapped up in great holiday sales, and big puppy dog eyes when our kids ask for an expensive gift, but don’t forget to set a budget, and not to overspend. Spending outside of your means will not only cause you stress during the holidays, but even more stress after the holidays and those bills come in, not worth it!

5.Don’t Overindulge! Now, I’m not saying the holidays aren’t a time to have some yummy treats and snacks, but if you overindulge you might end up regretting it and stressing out about it. I don’t only mean food. I mean too many parties, too much shopping, etc. Make what you do decide to indulge in count, and don’t over due it and cause yourself unneeded stress!

6.Remember the reason for the season! No matter what your reason is, be it religion, or family, remember why you celebrate in the first place. In the end it isn’t about the gifts, the food, or the parties, it’s about love! Be thankful for what you have in your life and celebrate!
