Gearing Up for the Holidays: Hot Toys

making dollars changes

I am a year round shopper when it comes to Christmas gifts. I am happy to report that I have several people on my list already done! Last year I made a vital mistake when it came to shopping for my nephews. They are older than my boys and into pre-teen type toys. They really wanted the Mindflex last year. I wanted to be the “cool aunt” and get it for them. It was in my budget for them if I made it a shared gift. Problem– by the time I started looking for the Mind Flex they were out of stock everywhere.

It is the same each year. There is always a hot toy or a must have item. It is truly amazing how much people will pay above retail to please there kids. No, I did not go crazy and get the Mind Flex for my nephews! I ended up buying them something else that wasn’t as cool. But, I was the very “cool aunt” at Easter! I happened to come across the Mind Flex in March and I bought it for them then. It was almost better waiting because they truly did not expect it!

If you are anticipating shopping for the hot item of the year, start looking now. ToysRus just released the Holiday Hot Toy List online. Use it as a guide to know what is anticipated to be a bog deal this year. Of course you never know, it could end up being something as silly as the Zhu Zhu Pets!

As you all know, I am big on homemade gifts and minimal spending. Don’t feel pressured to buy the hot items. However, if a hot item is on the list make sure you start shopping early to avoid high prices and empty shelves!

Now it’s your turn!
