I love Fashion but I hate paying tons of money to look great. I believe you need two things the knowledge of what looks good on you and the skill to find it for less. I encourage you to get rid of all the items in your closet that you do not wear. They cloud up your options to make really great outfits because you can’t see your clothes! If they are in good condition sell the at a consignment store or a place like Plato’s closet, or host a clothing swap. Clothing swaps are a blast!
Do you know that most of your favorite stores have a cheaper version? Do you love Ann Taylor? Well Ann Taylor loft is cheaper. Do you enjoy clothes by The Gap? Try old Navy. If you like Gymboree for your kids try Crazy 8. I did on Thursday. I went shopping at Short Pump Mall so my daughter could run around before picking up company at the airport and returning home. I ran into Crazy 8 and came out with two pairs of boy’s jeans, a long sleeve t- shirt, and two pairs of socks for $17.97. I paid consignment prices for brand new clothes. I paid my friend cash and we added our clothes together to score crazy bucks. If you spend $40 you get $20 in crazy cash. This means she can go back to the store next week and get $40 worth of clothes for just $20.
It is also true that a lot of designers have outlet stores where you can score huge discounts on your favorite brands. I usually head to the outlet mall for my husband’s annual winter clothing purchase. I march right into Polo and buy him sweaters for $29.00 or $39.00 instead of the $80.00 and up. I get 50% or more off their retail price. Yes, these stores often have coupons so sign up for their mailers. This makes for some great deals. They are also a great places to start your out of season shopping. I usually pick up quite a few polo shirts for under $20.00 because I buy them at the end of the season for next year. I mean the style isn’t going to change. The trick is knowing that guys clothes rarely change in style so pick out classic styles and buy ahead. I always say find a brand you like and find a way to get it for less. My husband is a Polo, J Crew, and Banana Republic man and I never pay more than 50% of the retail price for his clothes. Yes, it is my fault he had no idea about name brands prior to us meeting but now he request these brands.
I am a Vera Wang girl. If I could afford her clothes I would wear them everyday. My wedding dress was Vera Wang and I could still wear it because it is classic. I mean I could put it on- zipping it may be a problem because I had a baby 6 weeks ago. The good news is I could have worn it prior to getting pregnant. Vera Wang, like other designers, has done an inexpensive clothing line for big box retailers. Vera Wang is at Kohls. This is a trend we are currently seeing the big designers are designing for the masses. The great thing is you get their sense of style for pennies on the dollar. I suggest you type in your favorite designer’s name and see where they show up you may be surprised to learn you can buy the look you want for less.
