Elf on the Shelf Idea- Tutu

Elf Tutu

Elf on the Shelf Idea- Tutu. You see my daughter saw an elf on the shelf with a tutu which lead I want one. I looked at the price and decided she was not getting one. I mean why would I spend $5 when I can spend less than $1. I decided I could make an elf tutu.  I do not even sew but I thought it would be more fun to make one and it only took a couple of minutes. I let my daughter pick out the elf tutu colors and we headed out to the craft store.

You will need:

  • 1/4 yard of tulle in whatever colors you wish! $.56
  • scissors
  •  ribbon it was $.33 a spool

Measure the ribbon my encircling the elf’s waist.

Then cut the ribbon so you have enough to tie it once you create the tutu

Cut the tulle in 6 inch strips

Then you will fold it over and knot it

You will continue to do so until you have covered the ribbon.

Love this idea! We are doing Elf on the Shelf for our 3yr old for the first time this year; will definitely be adding a tutu to ours! Thanks for the idea!

  2. Carley G says

We haven’t done the Elf, because, according to my youngest “It’s not pretty”, lol. The tutu would be great!

What a great idea! I have a few friends I need to tell about this. My friends kids wanted a girl elf, so maybe this would help!! :)

  4. Teresa P says

Honestly, I’m glad my kids are older.. the elf on the shelf kind of freaks me out but the tutu really does help make it less freaky.

that’s creative but it seems like so much extra work for such a tiny thing. being a grown up isn’t as fun as being a kid. I bet my 10 year old daughter would jump on a project like this, but me, I’d feel like I didn’t accomplish enough. I wish I could appreciate this more for myself. I admire all of you who can.

This is a great idea, a frugal and easy idea for dressing up your mischievous little Elf. With all of these great ideas the family Elf on the Shelf will have a life of it’s own and become real fun during the Holidays! Thanks!

What a cute idea. It’s the same basics for making netted Christmas trees I used to make with my mom in the 60′s. Cool.

I only recently figured out what elf on the shelf is… i guess i am slow on the bandwagon, lol. but this is a cute idea… and FYI you can make child (or adult!) sized tutus the same way, or replace the ribbon with elastic.

How funny – I was looking at the Elf on the Shelf clothing and thinking that there is no way that I would pay that much money for a tiny skirt, so I pulled out some tulle and made some tutu’s this morning.

  15. Andria Bonbright says
