Grilled Tuna Steak, mushrooms & zucchini with a pasta side

I wanted to share my families dinner with you. Many times people think that buying frugal or buying groceries on the cheap equals low quality meals. However, we ate gourmet tonight!

Amee and I went shopping together at Harris Teeter yesterday. As we shared, the Tuna Steak was an e-VIC special. Unsure of how to prepare fresh tuna, I told Amee I was going to pass on the deal. Amee encouraged me to try it on the grill. I figured why not? It ended up being $1.75 for just under a pound. Normally it would have been $10.75.

The tuna steak and grilled veggies (Kroger discount veggies and herbs from my garden) made a fabulous meal! Not only did I like it, but my husband and children did too. And talk about easy! I had dinner on the table in under 30 minutes.

Moral of the story, you can eat good food on a budget. There are deals to be had on quality food. Also, don’t be afraid to try new things; especially when the item is on a super sale. Since the tuna was such a great price, I wouldn’t have been upset if the family didn’t care for it. Now if I would have paid the $10.75, that would be a different story!

    Anyway, as I was saying… I had never cooked fresh tuna before, and I’m not exactly gifted in the kitchen. After seeing your post using the HT deal, I went out and purchased my very first tuna steaks… I figured, for 2.71 (I went slightly over 1lb) I could certainly try the tuna… and even if I overcook it, it should still be good for a salad topper!
