Couponing for the Extremely Normal: Tip #4

Welcome to Couponing for the Extremely Normal! Have you watched the new TLC series “Extreme Couponing“? If so, you must realize how extreme these couponers can be.

Here at Madame Deals, we believe in saving by using coupons but not to the extreme extent which the TLC series portrays.  We prefer to take a realistic approach to saving and stockpiling.

In order help you extreme coupon in a realistic way, we will be bringing you several tips each week.  Here’s tip #4:

How to make a shopping list when using coupons

The first step is to look over the deals for your favorite grocery and drug stores.  We recommend starting small.  Choose one or two stores at which you plan to coupon shop.  Personally, the majority of my coupon shopping is done at one grocery store and one drug store.

Each week, go to the deal posts for these stores and determine what you need to buy to replenish your stockpile.  If the list is a printable list, click on the items and print your list.  (You can find instructions for using the printable lists here.)  If the list is not a printable list, copy and paste the items and coupon matchups to a word processing document.  Now it’s time to print your list.  Add any non-coupon items to your list.

Once you have your completed list in hand, gather your coupons and you’re ready to shop.  My mantra when coupon shopping is “stick to the list.”  Buy those items which are on the list and only those which are on the list.  It can be hard at times but, trust me, it will save you $$$!
