Karla’s Korner: Nothing is Important

“Nothing” is Important…. After spending another weekend away from home attending a church conference, fighting crazy traffic for nearly four hours home, unpacking, doing a few loads of laundry I found myself searching for ideas to write about. I sat for nearly an hour staring at the blank computer screen wishing my brain would produce a page full of wise words to share with my weekly readers. But what happens when I can’t come up with anything? I continue to sit in quiet and wait for ideas to … [Read more...]

Karla’s Korner: A Lesson in Friendship

Friendship A Lesson in Friendship Last week I shared that my mother-in-law passed away and the feelings I had surrounding that time of sadness. On Thursday my family travelled to North Carolina to say our final good-byes to her and to spend time in grief and celebration of her life with family and friends. I have been fortunate not to have had to experience many funerals but each time I do I struggle with the finality of it all and find myself filled with “what if’s” or “I wish I had’s”. We … [Read more...]

Karla’s Korner: Remembering, A Final Good-Bye

Remembering: A Final Good-Bye As I sit here alone in my bedroom I can barely see my computer screen. My eyes are filled with tears and my heart aches with sadness. My phone rang at 2:00 a.m. this morning (Sunday); it was my husband who was working out of town for the weekend telling me that his mother had just passed away. Dazed from sleep I muddled through the conversation desperately wanting to be with him at that moment. As I fell back into my bed, alone in the quiet of my home my mind … [Read more...]

Karla’s Korner: Friendships of the Soul

Friendships Friendships of the Soul….. I have this thought rolling around in my head; one that can be adapted to many situations. Can a person love another person without having ever met the; can you really know a person without having ever met them face to face? Can you be friends with someone without having ever met them? While most would answer “no” my answer is “yes!” When I started writing nearly four years ago I had no idea the volume of people my words would reach. I had absolutely … [Read more...]

Karla’s Korner: Memorial Day

Memorial Day Memorial Day: Honoring a Hero This week our nation celebrates Memorial Day; a day set aside to remember all those military men and women who lost their lives in the line of military duty. For many Americans, Memorial Day means a day off from work, the opening of the community swimming pool and picnics with family and friends. Quite often memorializing fallen American Hero’s on this or any other day doesn't seem as important as having extra free time for ourselves. We celebrate … [Read more...]

Thought for the Day from Karla's Korner: Keep It Simple

Thought for the Day Keep It Simple… This past week marked the end of another school year at my school which means I have sent another group of used to be three year olds onto pre-kindergarten and I am preparing for a new class for the summer session to begin almost immediately. As moving up approached I began to feel a twinge of sadness because I"ve grown pretty attached to these kids and am sad to see them go. This year has not only been filled with a lot of learning but also a lot of fun. As … [Read more...]

Karla’s Korner: Top Ten Parenting Tips …Sort of

Parenting Tips Top Ten Parenting Tips…Sort of When I became a mother 20 years ago I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do. In fact, until the day my daughter was born I had not changed a diaper. I was about as inexperienced as one could be in the child rearing department. Little did I know that no matter how much I learned it would never be enough. There is always something more to learn when being a momma. Today my kids are 20 and 14 and somehow we have managed to make it through … [Read more...]

Thought for the Day from Karla’s Korner: Love is Forever

Thought for the Day: Love is Forever Love is Forever Love according to my online dictionary is defined as a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties. This little four letter word has a wide variety of meanings and is commonly used in everyday language as a means of affection. But what does it mean? We use the word love quite often in our daily conversations. Quite often we profess our love of food, music, sports, books, etc. when sharing our feelings and … [Read more...]

Thought for the Day from Karla’s Korner: Never Give Up…Be the Butterfly

Thought for the Day

Thought for the Day Never Give Up… I came home from work the other day and noticed quite a few butterflies fluttering around my newly bloomed lilac bush. The bush has been in my yard for two years and has just bloomed for the first time. The fragrance is intoxicating and I find myself stopping by for a “sniff” every chance I get. As I approached the bush most of the butterflies flew away; only one remained. He (I really don’t know if it was male or female) stayed on one large lush bloom … [Read more...]
