Many of you know that this will be the third year that I am participating in the Charlottesville Women’s 4 Miler. The proceeds from this awesome race benefit the UVa Cancer Center Breast Care Program. Raising funds for breast cancer awareness, support and finding a cure have always been important to me. Last week, it became more personal for me. My grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer. She will undergo surgery next week and eventually start radiation. Fortunately, it looks like it is an early stage and slow moving cancer.
I want to encourage all women to do regular self breast exams. My grandma actually found the lump herself. You can find out more information on doing self exams and mammograms on the Susan G Komen website.
I also want to encourage all of you to get involved. There are 3,300 women running or walking the Women’s 4 Miler this year. If you live in this area, chances are you know someone who is participating. Please support these women and their desire to raise money for the Breast Care Program.
Kim Krum is having a “Shear Gratitude” event on Sunday August 23rd from noon-4pm at Salon DeShano to raise funds for her mission to Shave 4 a Cure. If Kim can raise $10,000 for the 4 miler race, she will shave her head! I applaud Kim in her effort and braveness to do something that many of us would not have the boldness to do. Come out on Sunday for a great haircut, prizes, fun and food! Amee and I will be there getting our haircut! Think about it, the minimum donation is $25 and most haircuts cost more than that. Donate for an important cause and get a great haircut in return!
If you know someone participating in the race and would like to sponsor them, you can make a donation online HERE.
Thank you all for your support!
