Fashion Friday: The Fashion Disaster

I love Fashion but I hate paying tons of money to look great. I believe you need two things the knowledge of what looks good on you and the skill to find it for less. I encourage you to get rid of all the items in your closet that you do not wear. They cloud up your options to make really great outfits because you can't see your clothes! If they are in good condition sell the at a consignment store or a place like Plato's closet, or host a clothing swap. Clothing swaps are a blast! We went to … [Read more...]

Packaging Meat for the Freezer

We are a meat eating family. Both my husband and I grew up on a meat and potatoes diet. I try not to cook with red meat more than once or twice a week; although we do really enjoy it! To save the most money on meat I buy when the prices are low and freeze it in dinner size portions. In fact I have not bought chicken, steak or pork for over a month now. We have been relying on our nice freezer stockpile. Since I do not have a Vacuum Sealer (the FoodSaver is on my want list!), I use Glad Press … [Read more...]

I Threw it Together Dinner of Fish and Veggies I had 20 minutes and soccer to content with. I opened the freezer and began the treasure hunt. I spotted frozen flounder. Score. I placed it under cold running water for two minutes. Then I had to figure out what to put with it. I came up with tomatoes, red onions, orange peppers, and garlic infused cheese. I served it on a bed of polenta. Voila! The adults topped it with salsa. The kids just ate it topped with the alouette cheese spread and … [Read more...]

Coupons for Seasonal Products

It is that time of year where you will see Holiday and baking displays in stores. Make sure you look at these displays because most of the time there will be coupons around. Look for booklets and for tearpad coupons. Many times the booklets with recipes in them have coupons too. Recent coupons I have found are (from Giant & Kroger): $1/2 Progresso Soup, exp. 1/31/11 Simply Delicious Holiday Booklet: $1/3 Nestle Toll House Morsels, exp. 3/31/11 $1/2 Glad Products, exp. … [Read more...]

Chutzpah . This is a word that is used often by myself because sometimes I just can’t believe what people do. I mean really! I thought it would be fun to share our Chutzpah moments. The only rules are no names of stores, people, or events. You may also not use inappropriate language. Leave a comment listing your favorite Chutzpah moment! I mean laughter is the best medicine. Chutzpah Or khutspe. Nerve, extreme arrogance, brazen presumption. In English, chutzpah often connotes courage or … [Read more...]

Ask A Traveler: Where is your kid’s shirt?

We started this site  because Renae and I wanted to share our best moments and some questionable times. I will not say bad because I believe everyday is a learning experience. I learned to triple check everything and to ask my husband not to clean out the car before a trip because I have "in case of emergency" everything in there. I now have a clothing emergency and my backup plan is in my garage . The grand vacation plan ends in one naked kid so far. We have headed out of town for the night. I … [Read more...]

Cooking in Season & Fall Stockpile Items

Fall is finally here, yeah! With the change of season you may have noticed that the grocery sales ad has changed a bit too. The loss leaders, the items that are deeply discounted to draw you in, have changed with the season along with the produce and meat sales. The easiest way to save some money at the grocery store is to change your menu to coincide with the seasonal changes. For Fall and Winter this means more hardy and warm meals such as soups, roasts and chili. There are certain items that … [Read more...]

Smokey Joes: A Homemade Sloppy Joes Recipe

Homemade Sloppy Joes Recipe This recipe sounds quick and easy, great for those busy nights. Thanks to Connie for this recipe. Check out Cook with Connie for more fantastic recipes! I grew up eating Manwich sloppy joes.  In my opinion, anything that’s served on a bun or eaten with your hands is the perfect family-friendly meal.  Rather than use the canned sloppy joe sauce that is full of sodium, I gave home-made sloppy joes a try.  I used a coupon and got a can of fire-roasted tomatoes for … [Read more...]
