Jantsen’s Gift: a Book Review

I had the honor of reviewing the book Jantsen’s Gift by Pam Cope. Let me just say, grab a box of tissue and read this book! Jantsen’s Gift is a true story based on Pam’s journey with grief, rescue and grace. Pam’s teenage son unexpectedly died which led to a spiral into depression. Although it is heart wrenching to read about death, the grieving process and depression; Pam chronicles how her son’s death changed her life. Something seemed to always be missing in Pam’s life. She really had everything, but something was still not right. She considered herself a Christian, but never really knew who God was. Pam filled her life and home with frivolous items only to realize that it meant nothing after Jansten died.

A trip to Vietnam changed everything for Pam. Seeing children on the streets begging, homeless and sold into slavery and prostitution changed Pam’s life forever. Although grief for Jansten never subsided, Pam decided to turn his passing into a chance to change her life. Helping other children changed Pam; it gave her purpose and hope. Most of all, Pam found faith in herself and meaning in her life. In one year, Pam rescued 30 Vietnamese children. Her and her husband, Randy, also ended up adopting two Vietnamese children.

Pam also visited Cambodia and Ghana. She ended up forming an organization called Touch A Life which helps at risk children from all over the globe. Pam’s story is simply amazing. She talks about her spiritual and personal growth over the last ten years. Most of all, Pam never gave up. She is just one person, but she has changed many lives. Being a small town mom from Missouri, Pam never could imagine traveling the world non-the less making complicated rescues from the far reaches of the earth.

I would highly recommend Jantsen’s Gift. It will make you cry, laugh, count your blessings and change your life. I really enjoyed the pictures Pam has added to the book. It makes her story even more meaningful to see the faces of the lives she has touched. Touch A Life is still a thriving organization. I urge you all to checkout the awesome things Touch A Life has done for needy children.
