Kids seems to want snacks non-stop. To save money on snacks while traveling, I make little snack bags for my boys. Take the snack size ziploc bags and place a variety of snack items in them. I use cheerios, dried fruit, raisins, gold fish and animal crackers. I make each little bag different and let my boys choose which one they would like. Also, make the portions in each bag small. There will be less waste and they will be less likely to spill. They will enjoy having their own little snack bag. You will save so much money by bringing snacks along instead of buying items when your child is hungry. Many times preparing your own snack bags are cheaper than buying the prepackaged snacks.

What a great tip! JDaniel is too small to pack a snack bag, but I love the healthy variety of options you give.
This is a great idea! I usually try to plan travel for between meals, when possible, but often end up stopping for a quick snack. I always justify it with ordering fruit, but fast food is still fast food and it’s not good on the budget. I’m going to try this for our fall road trip next week. Maybe I’ll even make up a few to keep in the car!
